Since I'm given the stage, let me say I hate so many Dracula adaptations. But the retellings (Dracula: Untold and Nosferatu 1979 are fine. )
Don't know if they're best but my favorite novels are:

The Secret History
Perfume
To Kill a Mockingbird
Dracula

My Opinions on Jane Eyre

I think the premise does it a disservice as premises often do, sometimes the premise is better than the book(looking at Never Let Me Go).

This novel is phenomenal. As far as fleshed out characters go, this is as good as they're gonna get.

Of course, there are the occasional caricatures here and there that help the protagonist shine in comparison. One such character is named Blanche Ingram who was courted by Mr. Rochester, Jane's romantic interest. She is beautiful and dumb, vain and thoroughly uninteresting. As opposed to our plain yet mannered and intelligent Jane.

Another more charitable beautiful and dumb caricature is Rosamund Oliver. She's sweet but also an instrument against whom Jane's other attributes shine.

But I can excuse that as it pales in comparison to the treatment all the other characters got, whose quirks don't come at the cost of their depth. What I mean is that they may look nothing more than stand-ins for an idea or social criticism but they also have depth.

Let's take Mrs. Reed for example, even while we can see that she feels guilty for what she did, she still maintains her pride and resentment on her deathbed. We see her dilemma but she betrays herself only while she's not fully conscious. We don't see her having a learning moment just so Jane Eyre could score one against her.

Or do we? Jane does score one but not by having Mrs. Reed contrite and apologetic but by transcending her.

Jane is an admirable person with a strong sense of self and justice. She gets tempted with her deepest desire yet chooses integrity. She persistently holds her own against those who would belittle her. For all her altruism, she'd never settle for a loveless marriage. What do you want me to say? I love this woman!

Look out for the conversations in this novel. They're as revealing of the characters as compelling of their view points. St. John and Jane's conversations are my favorite. That whole story line was. Because this time Jane was not confronted with a clear moral dilemma(at least for her time) so it was thrilling to read about her flipping the script. Her choice was much more than following her heart.

Now to the part that bothered me:
The very convenient death of she who must not be spoiled for those that haven't read it. At least Charlotte "punished" Mr. Rochester for his sins but still let's just say I didn't like some treatments for some characters.

In general, I love the book. I found the writing addictive. Wherever Jane got her strong sense of self(it's implied that books have something to do with it) she maintains it by defying all odds. She's a hero not because we're told she is ; she repeatedly proves it to the reader. She doesn't abandon her heart when her brains are complimented. And she doesn't abandon her morals when romance is presented to her.

Everybody gets what they deserve in the story but even if they didn't, Jane had this mindset.

I looked at his features, beautiful in their harmony, but strangely formidable in their still severity; at his brow, commanding but not open; at his eyes, bright and deep and searching, but never soft; at his tall imposing figure; and fancied myself in idea his wife.
Oh! it would never do! As his curate, his comrade, all would be right: I would cross oceans with him in that capacity; toil under Eastern suns, in Asian deserts with him in that office; admire and emulate his courage and devotion and vigour; accommodate quietly to his masterhood; smile undisturbed at his ineradicable ambition; discriminate the Christian from
the man: profoundly esteem the one, and freely forgive the other. I should
suffer often, no doubt, attached to him only in this capacity: my body would
be under rather a stringent yoke, but my heart and mind would be free. I should still have my unblighted self to turn to: my natural unenslaved
feelings with which to communicate in moments of loneliness. There would
be recesses in my mind which would be only mine, to which he never came, and sentiments growing there fresh and sheltered which his austerity could never blight, nor his measured warrior-march trample down: but as his wife
—at his side always, and always restrained, and always checked—forced to keep the fire of my nature continually low, to compel it to burn inwardly and never utter a cry, though the imprisoned flame consumed vital after vital—this would be unendurable

-Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte

It's impossible to quote everything I wanna quote from it.  Just read it if you haven't. I'm sure it'll be worth your time.

"Preposition
This is a fine form to make a prepositional proposition in.

The proposition is this: prepositions are fine to end a sentence with."

-Bo Burnham

I'm so glad somebody said it!
