Root words are my thing. I especially love noticing words that we actively use that are related to mythology.
For instance, the name of the drug Morphine comes from the Greek god of good dreams, Morpheus.
And guess what? Morpheus is the son of Hypnos, the god of sleep. Are you hypnotized by this fact yet?😁 Oh, and the Roman counterpart of Hypnos is Somnus. He hopes you're not in-somnia-c!🤭

Nobody will respect you more than you respect yourself. Nobody will see you valuable if you devalue yourself. Assert your value! Ask for that pay you know you deserve! And work from the bottom of your heart. Pour love into everything you do. Love tramps begrudging duty any day of the week.
And if you don't love what you do, let me break it to you, you'll never learn to love it in the future. Time wears your patience for what you hate, but it enforces your love for your life purpose. You will have to endure discomfort to achieve great things. But don't milk it! Don't try to endure what you hate. Cause you'll have to hate yourself for it.

5. Don't feel guilty for charging so much for your time. It's literally your age.
6. Ladies, make your own money and don't rush into marriage.
7. Men, don't let anyone shame you for your emotions, but know that they DO NOT excuse your behavior.
8. Don't take it to heart when your teacher over-praises you or insults you.
9. Respect your parents. Know when to listen to them BUT Know when to defy them and listen to yourself too.
10. Wrestle with God. Even when you doubt His existence.
11. Let your close friends see into you. Maybe not all the way through. But deep enough.
12. Keeping something to yourself is not a sin. Have little secrets with yourself, little rituals.

7. Know what to rebel against. Rebel by non conformity, by pursuing your dreams, by befriending the outcasts, by daring to be labelled the teacher's pet. Not by being an asshole!

9. Dabble in different things open-mindedly
10. Make acquaintances but don't commit to friendships too early as school starts. You might end up in the wrong friend group.
11. Read books that challenge you.
12. Work on your self reliance and emotional intelligence. It can save you from fumbling major life decisions.

Stephen King says writing is self-hypnosis. To me, writing is like self-amputation. Agonizingly parting ways with your thoughts after the immense effort of trying to make sense of them. Sharing my thoughts is an act of bravery. Like standing naked before the firing squad. And an act of trust like sharing an incriminating secret with a lover. Help me hide the body.

Once in a while,
a classroom alive with chatter gets quiet abruptly, then all you hear is the scratching of pencils and pens against paper with the occasional rustle of turning pages.
It hits you, then...consciousness.
Moments like that make me ache with bittersweet feelings.
Like when I'm home alone and sunlight seeps into my living room uninvited; defying me.
Like how the moonlight has a life of its own, scaring me.
Like a good fairytale that sends chills up your soul.
Like the distant echoes of a church bell and the chants that follow.
Like art and polaroids of frozen time.
It's all I think about during my long commutes to school; hyper aware, melting into the window-seat as the wind brings warped memories. Cold air with a hint of rot, courtesy of a city buzzing with life.
So I believe. Against my 'better' judgement.
