🔥 Taiwan Introduces New Bill to Regulate Virtual Assets👀
On October 25th, lawmakers in Taiwan presented the Virtual Assets Management Bill to the unicameral legislature, the National Defense Assembly.
This bill, spanning approximately 30 pages, aims to provide "enhanced protection" for customers and "proper oversight" of the cryptocurrency industry.
It proposes various standard obligations for Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs), such as segregating customer funds from the company's reserve, establishing internal control and auditing systems, and participating in local exchange associations.
The proposed bill also imposes fines on VASPs operating without a license. Specifically, the fines range from no less than two million Taiwanese dollars (approximately 60,000 USD) to no more than twenty million Taiwanese dollars (600,000 USD).
Companies currently operating in the Taiwanese market will have six months to obtain a license after the bill takes effect.
