Shelly-ALPM v3.1.10 has released
https://github.com/Seafoam-Labs/Shelly-ALPM/releases/tag/v3.1.10
Shelly is a modern package manager for Arch Linux designed to be a more user-friendly alternative. Offering a visual interface with a focus on user experience and ease of use. Shelly supports native package operations through libalpm or Shelly.Rlpm, with libalpm selected by default. It is a complete reimagination of how a user interacts with their Arch Linux system, providing a more intuitive experience.
🐚 Shelly-ALPM v3.1.10 Release Notes
Shelly v3.1.10 improves AUR build reliability, resolves system upgrades and explicitly requested repository packages together, and makes RLPM failures easier to understand. The CLI gains a shell progress animation and package-name output for scripts and completions, while the desktop app gets better keyboard navigation and more accurate package lists.
Behind the scenes, Shelly moves to Zig 0.17.0, updates its build and packaging workflows, and removes Arch Linux news from Devario builds.
🧱 More reliable AUR builds
Build dependencies are now discovered and installed before prepare() runs, including when an AUR package needs other AUR packages to build. Dependency planning reads metadata without downloading sources, running lifecycle functions, or changing the reviewed PKGBUILD. Normal source preparation and version updates happen after dependencies are available. (#2110)
https://github.com/Seafoam-Labs/Shelly-ALPM/pull/2110
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
This release also improves compatibility with package recipes:
🧩 Support prefix and suffix trimming on quoted indexed array elements, including expressions such as ${source[0]%%::*}, fixing UnsupportedArrayExpansion failures for these constructs.
📝 Collapse whitespace in multiline pkgdesc values when writing .PKGINFO, keeping descriptions on one valid metadata line. (#2100)
https://github.com/Seafoam-Labs/Shelly-ALPM/pull/2100
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
📥 Accept larger HTTP response headers during downloads, fixing failures involving GitHub security headers and redirects. (#2096)
https://github.com/Seafoam-Labs/Shelly-ALPM/pull/2096
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
🔄 Upgrades and package configuration
shelly install standard --upgrade now resolves the system upgrade and explicitly requested repository packages in one transaction. This fixes dependency failures when a requested package and its updated libraries need to move together, including explicit targets from another repository. The confirmation preview explains the combined operation. (#2105)
https://github.com/Seafoam-Labs/Shelly-ALPM/pull/2105
Changes to IgnorePkg now preserve the separation between the main configuration and included files. Adding or removing an entry no longer copies inherited entries into pacman.conf. (#2101)
https://github.com/Seafoam-Labs/Shelly-ALPM/pull/2101
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
🐛 Clearer RLPM errors and progress
RLPM reports more useful explanations for failures involving configuration, database locks, downloads, filesystem operations, hooks, and scriptlets. Diagnostics retain the underlying technical error and add relevant context, including action names and exit status when available.
File-conflict reporting carries the conflicting paths and package identities into the transaction diagnostics. Download verification and publication progress bars also clear when their work finishes, keeping subsequent hook output readable while other downloads continue.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

🐚 A little more shell in your terminal
The new Shell progress style opens and closes a small ASCII shell as it advances along the bar. It becomes the default when no style is saved; existing style choices are preserved. To select it:
shelly config set ProgressBarStyle Shell
Blocks and Pacman remain available. Redirected output prints completed progress lines without animation.
The CLI also adds --names-only to standard and AUR package lists and standard searches. Each matching package name appears on its own line, and standard searches bypass pagination:
shelly list standard --names-only
shelly list aur --names-only
shelly search standard --names-only --show-hidden
Bash, Fish, and Zsh package completions now query Shelly directly, removing their dependency on pacman for those package lists.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
🧭 Desktop navigation and package lists
♿️ Give pages an accessible focus stop so keyboard traversal reaches their content. The first-run wizard also moves focus into each new page, helping keyboard and screen-reader users follow the setup flow. (#2107)
https://github.com/Seafoam-Labs/Shelly-ALPM/pull/2107
📦 Keep the Packages tab based on repository results, using installed-package data to annotate installation status. Foreign and local-only packages no longer appear there as repository packages with unsuitable actions. (#2108)
https://github.com/Seafoam-Labs/Shelly-ALPM/pull/2108
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
🌊 Devario defaults
Builds using the Devario path profile no longer fetch or display Arch Linux news during upgrades. News commands are omitted from help, generated manuals, and shell completions; explicitly invoking them reports that news is unavailable. This follows the build's distribution profile, so selecting another runtime backend does not change it. Builds using the pacman path profile retain Arch news. (#2109)
https://github.com/Seafoam-Labs/Shelly-ALPM/pull/2109
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
📦 Build and packaging updates
⚡️ Move the native components and build recipes to Zig 0.17.0, with matching API and build-option updates. (#2117)
https://github.com/Seafoam-Labs/Shelly-ALPM/pull/2117
✅ Install checksum-verified official Zig archives in CI for the runner's architecture.
🧩 Replace vendored dependency copies with upstream dependencies pinned by URL and content hash.
📦 Add a dedicated CachyOS packaging directory and update Arch and Devario build workflows.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
🚀 Upgrade notes
Source builds now require Zig 0.17.0. Populate the dependency cache before building offline with zig build --fetch=all in each component you intend to build.
install standard --upgrade cannot be combined with --build-deps; upgrade the system separately before installing build dependencies.

Welcome to a new issue of This Week in Plasma!
This week the Plasma team continued to polish up Plasma 6.8, fixing many bugs. Most of the regressions reported in Plasma 6.8 have been resolved now, so the team moved onto older bugs and squashed a very large number of them! In addition, there are some nice UI and performance improvements
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Notable UI improvements
Plasma 6.8.2
The Power & Battery widget’s “Manually Block Sleep and Screen Locking” switch now synchronizes its state across multiple instances of the widget. (Christoph Wolk👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=527560
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Plasma 6.8.3
When Plasma is asked to load a third-party shell package with invalid QML in it, it no longer crashes in a loop, but rather fails to loads and shows you an error message indicating what the problem is. (Marco Martin👇
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/libplasma/-/merge_requests/1617
When using the Window List widget, really long window titles can no longer push other widgets sharing the same panel off the end; now the maximum length is capped at a certain point, and the text elides. (Niccolò Venerandi👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456148
Using the Kickoff Application Launcher widget’s “Switch sidebar categories when hovering over them” setting no longer unnecessarily changes the height of the sidebar list items. (Niccolò Venerandi👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=524003
The Folder View widget no longer lets you configure it to use manual positioning in cases where this isn’t actually supported. (Niccolò Venerandi👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=513880
If you use the Pager widget at a large size, the app icons it shows now grow when needed to fit better within their window outlines. (Niccolò Venerandi👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=518625
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Plasma 6.9
Discover now lets you share and copy appstream:// URLs for locally-installed Flatpak packages too, not just ones that were installed over the network. (Taras Oleksyn
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459827
Pressing the “Full Screen” button on a website shown in the Web Browser widget now shows the content full screen, as you would expect it to. (Niccolò Venerandi👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=507460
The Timer widget has received a significant round of visual and functional polish to make sure it looks and works well at all different sizes of panels. More is on the way for this widget, too! (Christoph Wolk👇
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kdeplasma-addons/-/merge_requests/1131
Windows marked as excluded from screencasting are now also excluded from the Task Manager widget’s tooltip thumbnails. (Ramil Nurmanov👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=516184
The Konsole Profiles widget now shows the default profile too, not just custom ones that you created yourself. (Niccolò Venerandi👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465553
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Notable bug fixes
Plasma 6.6.8
Panel tooltips throughout Plasma that only show a single label no longer use reduced opacity for the text; now this is only done for subtitles when there’s a larger title. (Filip Fila👇
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/libplasma/-/merge_requests/1611
Tab buttons throughout Plasma no longer have a weird almost invisible background. (Christoph Wolk👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=519745

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=523988
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Plasma 6.8.2
Fixed three cases where Discover could crash while checking for updates. (Aleix Pol Gonzalez👇
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/discover/-/merge_requests/1446
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/discover/-/merge_requests/1447
Fixed a regression that made notifications inappropriately appear in the top-left corner of the primary screen when configured to follow the Notifications widget while the only Notifications widget was located on a different screen. (Sven Muckl👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=525536
Fixed a regression caused by a Qt change that made text in the Icons and Text Task Manager widget elide too early. (Nate Graham👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=526972
Fixed an issue that made remote desktop sessions occasionally fail to start from Flatpak apps. (Matteo Beretta👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=527555
The setting to remember the active keyboard layout on a per-application basis now works on Wayland the way it did on X11. (Marián Kadaňka👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452445
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476831
Fixed a regression that made the Digital Clock widget only respect some OpenType features in the font it’s using, rather than all of them. (Niccolò Venerandi👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=524257
Fixed a small bug that requires clicking the “Exit Edit Mode” button twice after the first time you entered Edit Mode after logging in. (Niccolò Venerandi👇

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Plasma 6.8.3
Fixed a regression that made Plasma crash when opening the launcher widget with a keyboard shortcut on systems with a combined total of screens, virtual desktops, and activities greater than 16. (Mauricio Šmit👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=527810
Fixed a regression that made panels cloned onto other screens forget which screen they lived on and move over to the primary screen. Unfortunately this does not fix the issue for panels that already moved around; you’ll have to move them back yourself. But it does fix the issue for newly-cloned panels. (Méven Car👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=527445
Fixed a regression caused by a Qt change that made many tooltips throughout Plasma lose their styling. (Filip Fila👇
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=527730
The tooltip in Info Center’s energy usage graph now shows the correct year, rather than a year 57 years in the future! (Shehriyar Qureshi👇

DXVK-NVAPI 0.9.3 Brings Nice Improvements For Linux Gamers On Latest NVIDIA Drivers
https://www.phoronix.com/news/DXVK-NVAPI-0.9.3
Written by Michael Larabel
DXVK-NVAPI 0.9.3 is out this weekend as a new feature update to this NVIDIA NVAPI implementation used by Valve as part of Steam Play with Proton for nicely integrating NVIDIA technologies into various Windows games running on Linux.
With DXVK-NVAPI 0.9.3 is now support for Opacity Micromaps "OMM" as part of Microsoft's DirectX Raytracing (DXR 1.2+) via NVAPI. With the NVIDIA R615 Linux driver or newer and VKD3D-Proton 3.1, this allows leveraging the Opacity Micromaps feature of DXR for speeding up ray-tracing through alpha-tested and semi-transparent geometry.
Those curious about Opacity Micromaps with DXR can learn more via this Microsoft dev blog.
https://devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/omm/
DXVK-NVAPI 0.9.3 also brings an alternative NVIDIA Reflex implementation for Vulkan games using the VK_NV_low_latency revision 2 extension. This also benefits those on the NVIDIA R615 driver or newer and using this implementation makes the DXVK-NVAPI Vulkan layer obsolete.
The updated DXVK-NVAPI also supports new driver settings found in NVIDIA R610 and R615 drivers, improves reporting of available/free VRAM, and supports compiling for ARM64.
More details on DXVK-NVAPI 0.9.3 via GitHub.

Hello everyone,
Before we start with the news, I’d like to thank all the people who support this project. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
As always, please note that the features presented below are a preview. They’re still being worked on and are planned for the next version of Linux Mint.
Sleep Modes
When you close the lid of your laptop, it goes into a sleep mode called “Suspend”. This mode is very useful. It’s well supported, fast and reliable, but it has a major limitation: It uses power.
A good laptop with a full battery can sleep for 2 or 3 days, but eventually the battery runs out. When it does, the outcome is worse than a normal shutdown. The session is gone, and the battery is empty.
Unfortunately, this happens often because the typical use case for Suspend is that you’re done using the laptop and you want to go and do something else. Closing the lid is fast. Looking for the power cable isn’t. And the computer looks like it’s OFF, so you might not even think about it.
This is where “Hibernation” comes into play. Hibernation saves the session to disk and completely shuts down the computer. No power is used. When you reopen the lid, the session is as it was and so is the battery.
Unlike Suspend, though, Hibernation is slow. It can take longer than a reboot to hibernate and resume the computer.
Hibernation is also hard to set up. It doesn’t work out of the box and requires a large amount of swap space on disk. Ubuntu actually decided to remove it from the available sleep modes, so it was usually not available in Linux Mint.
///////////////////////////////////////
We’re bringing it back.
We added a page in the System Administration tool dedicated to Sleep Modes.
This page makes it easy to enable Hibernation and to set it up correctly.
We also took the opportunity to add support for Hybrid Sleep and Suspend-then-Hibernate.
Hybrid Sleep suspends the computer but also saves the session to disk. If the battery runs out, you need to find the power cable, but you can resume the session.
As the name suggests, Suspend-then-Hibernate suspends the computer but when the battery level goes critical, it hibernates it.
///////////////////////////////////////
Nemo Preview Pane
The file manager got a preview pane.
You can toggle it with F7 or by clicking the button in the status bar.
The preview pane supports audio, pictures and videos.
It also shows information about the selected media. For instance, in the screenshot above you can see when the picture was taken, and with which camera.
///////////////////////////////////////
Superlight
Superlight is a new application whose purpose is to monitor the state of the system.
It shows graphs for CPU and RAM usage, but also SWAP, GPU, Network, Disk I/O, Temperature and Fan Speed.
On its App page, you can see what’s running on the computer and how much of the system’s resources each application is using.
You can also see the same data for all the running processes.
You can choose from a large variety of columns, and sort them or reorder them any way you like. All of this is remembered by Superlight.
If you have a battery, you can see its status, all the information related to it, and a history of charge level and power input/output.
The Storage page shows how much space is used on your disks and what’s using it.
You start with a general breakdown. If you click on Files, you can browse and see which folders and files take up the most space.
If you click on Steam, Superlight shows you which games take up space.
And the same goes for Flatpak.
Superlight makes it easy to see what’s taking up resources on your computer.

Velocitty
Velocitty is a new terminal application. It’s really simple to use and packed with great features.
Like Ghostty and Ptyxis, it comes with a tab overview:

The Linux Mint Blog
Monthly News – October 2026
Hello everyone,
🔥1
And it can be themed with palettes:
Just like in Firefox, you can reorder tabs within a window, move them from one terminal window to another, or even detach a tab into a new window.
You can choose which shell to run and specify a startup command. Here’s Velocitty configured to use fish and run fastfetch at startup:
Paths can be shortened in the preferences. For instance, here’s /var/lib/dpkg/info shortened to just info in the tab name and …/lib/dpkg/info in the prompt.
The color of the tab changes when something is going on. Red for superuser (root, sudo, pkexec, etc.), blue for remote sessions (ssh, sftp, etc.), and a lighter shade for running processes.
And tabs can be customized. You can give them a name, a color, a command to run and decide if you want them to automatically open when you launch Velocitty.
Clicking the little bookmark icon opens up all your custom tabs.
So whatever you’re working on, your projects and SSH sessions are always really easy to access.

Unfold
Unfold is a small archive manager designed to be as simple and easy to use as possible.
It supports basic operations such as viewing, creating and extracting archives.
It uses 7zip and 7zip-RAR and it’s compatible with all the encryption formats they support, including password-protected ones.

Other News
Xenity is a fork of Zenity 3.44 (GTK3), with the same features, the same look and the same syntax. It was added to the Mint 22.x and LMDE 7 repositories, and all Cinnamon spices which used Zenity were migrated to Xenity.
The Community Website was written years ago. It used PHP and allowed people to create accounts with a login and password. Following the recent discovery of critical vulnerabilities in PHP, we decided to rewrite it from scratch and reduce the amount of sensitive data stored in our database. It no longer uses PHP and it no longer stores or uses passwords. Authentication is now handled by GitHub. When you sign in, the Community Website gets the following data from GitHub: your username, your email address, and your avatar. If your email address matches the email associated with an existing account, that account is merged into the new one.
