πŸ“° "Light" GRUB Alternative Package For Confidential Computing Approved For Fedora 45

A month ago there was a change proposal raised for offering a "light" version of the GRUB2 bootloader for use in confidential computing environments. While there were some differing views on the matter for this alternative, stripped-down GRUB package as opposed to just using other bootloaders like systemd-boot, ultimately, the proposal is now approved...

πŸ“° Jellyfin's latest preview release finally convinced me to stop using separate media apps

Jellyfin runs on my mini PC inside a single Debian VM. Until recently, I put that VM under more multitasking than it should have had to handle. On that Proxmox-based mini PC, Jellyfin handled movies and shows. Calibre-web took care of my ebooks. Komga managed all the comics. Audiobookshelf organized all the audiobooks. Four separate services, four separate logins. All for the same broad job: showing me the media library.

The cool thing about Linux is that, if another distro has a really cool desktop layout that you like the look of, there's a good chance you can download it on your own PC, too. It's not like, say, Windows versus iOS, where you need third-party apps to emulate what the other OS is using; if a Linux distro has a cool desktop environment you like, just grab it.

πŸ“° Use AppManger to install, update AppImages on Ubuntu

AppImages are designed to be simple. Download one, make it executable and run it. On Ubuntu, though, there’s an extra step: installing FUSE 2 (libfuse2t64), as some AppImages rely on it. Ubuntu ships FUSE 3 by default. AppManager is a new(ish) GTK4/Libadwaita app which fixes that particular annoyance by mounting AppImages through uruntime instead of FUSE. It handles the usual SquashFS-packed AppImages, plus the newer DwarFS-packed ones too.
