Catch you again tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜„ Have a good night's rest ๐Ÿ˜ด Dr. Aderinsolaโค๏ธ
Good afternoon, Global Family! โค๏ธ Thank God it's Friday! ๐Ÿ˜ Did you remember Dr. Aderinsola mentioned she would be back the next day? Yes, she is back, and watch out for the next post! ๐Ÿ˜Š
Hello, Global Community! It's Dr. AA here!

I couldnโ€™t join you yesterday, but Iโ€™m here today and ready to engage.

Letโ€™s dive into something close to my heart.

The challenges Africa faces.

These are insights Iโ€™ve gathered over 14 years as an entrepreneur and as a university educator.

Let's dive in ๐Ÿš€
A major challenge we have in Africa is that Millions of Africans Are Overqualified But Underprepared for the Workforce

The statistics are alarming

According to the World Bank, " Africa has the largest share of young people aged 15-24, with 70% of the population below the age of 30".

However, this demographic dividend is threatened by a mismatch between the skills acquired in education and those required in the workforce.

The African Development Bank reports that "the current education system in Africa is not producing the skills needed for the modern workforce".

This is reflected in the high unemployment rates among African youths, with the International Labour Organization (ILO) reporting that "youth unemployment rates in Africa are significantly higher than the global average"

As someone who has taught at the university level and employed labour for 14 years, I've seen this problem up close. It's heartbreaking to witness academically sound students struggle to find employment due to a lack of workplace skills. This is why I founded Skilled For Work Academy โ€“ to bridge this gap and empower African youths with the skills they need to succeed.
But I'm not just passionate about this issue; I've also dedicated myself to finding solutions. As a PhD holder and innovation expert, I leveraged my experience from the UNLEASH innovation lab to design a truly unique curriculum for Skilled For Work Academy.

My expertise in innovation and product development enabled me to craft a comprehensive program that addresses the specific needs of African youths. The curriculum's design, testing, and iteration took an extensive 3 years to perfect.

I wasn't going to scale my numbers before testing and ensuring the learning experience was great.
My curriculum development experience and innovation expertise have allowed me to create a transformative learning experience that has already significantly impacted the lives of over 11,000+ individuals in 2024 alone.

And the impact is evident. Since we began testing in 2021, over 11,100 individuals have benefited from our SFW programs.

Some gained clarity, others gained clarity and workplace skills, while others gained clarity, workplace skills and real-world experience.
The result is evident in the transformation witnessed in learners.

While we don't have exact employment statistics, the Google testimonials speak volumes. Tens of our alumni have secured international remote jobs, with many more receiving promotions, recognition for excellence at work, or starting their consultation businesses.

Sustainability and Scalability In Entrepreneurship Requires Depth

What if I told you that the key to building a sustainable business in Africa is not about being the first to market but about being the first to understand your customer truly?"

Are you one of the 70% of entrepreneurs who rush to launch their products or services, only to watch them fail due to a lack of depth and understanding?

In my experience, many entrepreneurs are eager to launch their products or services, often without taking the time to thoroughly test and refine them.

However, this approach can lead to superficial solutions that fail to meet the needs of their customers.

According to the CB Insights report titled "The Top 20 Reasons Why Startups Fail" (2018), 42% of startups fail because they fail to meet the needs of their customers.

This highlights the importance of conducting thorough research and testing to ensure that your solution meets the needs of your target market.

At Skilled For Work Academy, we took a different approach. Before launching our programs, we spent three years testing and refining our curriculum, working with diverse groups of Africans to understand their needs and challenges. This process allowed us to develop a deep understanding of the African market and create solutions that are tailored to their specific needs.

My own experience learning the science of product innovation at the UNLEASH innovation lab was instrumental in shaping our approach. I remember Leila, our lead facilitator, saying this to us when we were stuck on problem framing on day 4 of 8 at our innovation lab in Singapore in 2018. Leila said, "Too many products make it into the market, then they start looking for a problem to solve." She asked us not to rush and spend time in the problem phase, the first stage of the 5-stage innovation process.

In this lab, I learned the importance of creating solutions grounded in research and designed to meet customers' specific needs. This expertise has enabled us to develop programs that are not only effective but also sustainable and scalable.

As Africa continues to experience rapid growth and transformation, it's essential that we prioritize depth and sustainability in our entrepreneurial endeavors. The African Development Bank estimates that by 2030, Africa's workforce will be the largest globally, with over 1 billion working-age people. This presents a tremendous opportunity for entrepreneurs to create innovative solutions that meet the needs of this growing workforce.

So, what does it mean to focus on depth in entrepreneurship? Here are a few key takeaways:

1) Take the time to test and refine your product or service: Don't rush to launch without conducting thorough research and testing.

2) Prioritize depth over breadth: Focus on creating a comprehensive and impactful solution rather than trying to offer a wide range of superficial products or services.

3) Invest in ongoing learning and development: Continuously update your knowledge and skills to stay ahead of the curve and ensure that your solutions remain relevant and effective. Your way of investing could be applied to such sponsored innovation labs. Invest time in applying. I can tell you for free that a monetary business grant of 10,000 USD wouldn't have been better than what I got then from this lab. I would take global training on the science of product innovation and business as a whole over a 10k grant.
I would like to ask if you know there is a science of product innovation.

Do you know how to create solutions grounded in research and designed to meet the specific needs of your customers?

If not, then it's time to learn.

The future of entrepreneurship in Africa depends on it.
