The criminal aspect of the scandal is largely irrelevant outside of this usage. The only interest here is that a financier had extensive connections with a wide variety of the global elite, which should really not be all that surprising. Epstein could reasonably be considered an asset of the US empire, whose major mistake was purchasing a house in Florida as opposed to New York
