You’ve probably seen the frog. But where did this weird Wednesday tradition come from?
Tumblr user kidpix2 posted a picture of a very strange-looking Budgett’s frog with the simple caption “Wednesday.” The post took off, eventually getting 60,000+ notes.
Viner JimmyHere turned the phrase into a legendary six-second video: “It is Wednesday, my dudes” followed by an attempt to imitate the frog’s bizarre scream. The Vine received more than 15 million loops and inspired over 140 variations.
The meme kept evolving. YouTuber ZimoNitrome started posting a new “Wednesday My Dudes” video every Wednesday — and kept the tradition going for a whole year!
It’s a great example of how internet culture actually works. A meme doesn't necessarily come from one person or one platform. Someone creates an image, someone else adds a joke, another person turns it into a video and eventually thousands of people make their own versions.
And today it really is Wednesday, my dudes!

He opened a window for the defenestration.
He has done his job so badly as to deserve automatic defenestration.
