Correct answer: Yankee Doodle

Yankee Doodle is a famous American folk song with surprising origins.

Initially, British officers in the mid-18th century used the tune and its lyrics to mock American colonists, portraying them as unsophisticated. However, the Americans cleverly adopted the song, transforming it into an anthem of defiance and national pride. Now it's a beloved part of U.S. culture.

You can listen to this tune here.

❤️ If you liked The Hunger Games, consider reading Suzanne Collins's new book “Sunrise on the Reaping” — it came out only this March!

❤️ One of the most popular bookstore chains in the US — Barnes and Noble — had a long queue right outside their stores at the very break of dawn. People were eagerly awaiting the story of their beloved Hunger Games character — Haymitch Abernathy.

❤️ Survival, rebellion and illusion versus reality are the main themes of Collins’ new book. Haymitch’s adolescence is definitely a traumatic one (we’ve already noticed that in the main trilogy), but do we actually know what happened during the Second Quarter Quell? You’ll have to read “Sunrise on the Reaping” to find out :)

❤️ It is safe to say that the reading culture in the US and the UK has been experiencing its “Reneissance”. Crowds of people similar in size to those one could’ve noticed in bookstores during the Harry Potter craze are now indulging themselves in more stories about District 12!

❤️ Are you familiar with The Hunger Games series? Which is your favourite part?

❤️ May the odds be ever in your favour!

🇬🇧 The sun never sets on the British Empire!

This famous phrase once described how vast the Empire was: its colonies stretched across the globe so that, at any given time, the sun was always shining on one of them 🌍

But what’s left of that Empire today? How did its history shape the modern world — from culture and language to politics and identity?

In our new rubric #sun_never_sets@level_APO, we’ll explore the stories of former British colonies — their past, their path to independence, and what connects them to Britain now.

Stay tuned — and see how the sun still shines on the traces of history

Answer: Singapore 🇸🇬

Founded in 1819 by Sir Stamford Raffles, this city quickly became one of the British Empire’s key trading hubs. Its strategic location on the route between India and China turned it into a bustling port — a jewel of Britain’s “Maritime Empire.”

During World War II, the fall of Singapore to Japan in 1942 was a major shock to British prestige. Yet after the war, the city’s recovery was just as remarkable: by 1959, Singapore had achieved self-government, and in 1965, after a short and turbulent union with Malaysia, it became a fully independent republic.

Today, this tiny island nation stands as a symbol of economic success and efficient governance — with one of the world’s busiest ports, a highly developed education system, and a vibrant multicultural identity rooted in its colonial past yet looking firmly to the future.

Key Symbols:

🦁 The Merlion, half-lion, half-fish, guards the harbour as a reminder of its maritime roots and the legend of the “Lion City.”
🏙️ The skyline, crowned by the iconic Marina Bay Sands, mirrors Singapore’s leap from colonial outpost to global metropolis.
🌳 The futuristic Gardens by the Bay blend nature and technology in breathtaking harmony.
