Houtouwan an abandoned fishing village on northern side of Shengshan Island, east of Shanghai, China.

Village was established in 1950s and was once home to more than 2000 fishermen. By 1990s, population began to rapidly decline due to lack of adequate connection to mainland, education, and job opportunities.

By 2002, village had been completely depopulated. After decades of abandonment, empty houses in the ocean-facing, cliffside village some of them still furnished, have been taken over by a blanket of lush climbing plants and is now a popular tourist attraction. Every day hundreds of tourists visit Houtouwan, making their way on narrow footpaths past crumbling houses overtaken by vegetation.
