Abuna Yemata Guh - The most inaccessible 'Place of Worship on Earth' located in Ethiopia :
Abuna Yemata Guh; a monolithic church located in the Hawzen woreda of the Tigray Region, Ethiopia. It is situated at a height of 2580m (8460ft) and has to be climbed on foot to reach. It is notable for its dome and beautiful wall paintings dating back to the 5th Century CE, and its architecture. According to local legend, church was hewn in 6th Century CE, and dedicated to Abuna Yemata (also referred to as Abba Yem'ata), one of Nine Saints. Nine Saints are traditionally believed to have originated from Rome, Constantinople and Syria between the end of 5th and beginning of 6th Centuries CE.
The church is carved into the side of a cliff and to reach it, visitors and worshippers alike have to cross a natural stone bridge with a sheer drop of approximately 250m (820ft) on either side, and thereafter a final narrow woode...
