Colossus of Ramesses II at Memphis - Egypt :
The colossus of the Pharaoh Ramesses II (d. 1213 BC) is an enormous statue carved in limestone, was found near the south gate of the temple of Ptah. Some of the original colors are still partly preserved. It is about over 13m in length, although the calves and feet are missing. His face is perfectly carved and in perfect condition, and is located near the village of Mit Rahina (Memphis), Egypt. The statue was found in 1820 by an Italian traveler Giovanni Battista Caviglia. The colossus is an incredible piece of work. Ramesses II is portrayed in the prone position, but the piece is unfinished. The statue is so large, an enclosure had to be built around it at the open air Mit Rahina Museum. (The museum consists of two parts, the indoors museum, and the outdoors museum. The indoors area contains that statue of Ramses II, and the ancient columns and statues of dwarfs...
