Як-40 — легендарный самолёт (и особенно любимый частью редакции «Летача»), хотя бы потому что он стал первым в мире реактивным самолётом МВЛ. Неприхотливый к ВПП (может садиться как на грунтовые и травяные, так и на полосы с твёрдым покрытием), простой в обслуживании, однако чересчур прожорливый по меркам рыночной экономики. В настоящее время подавляющее большинство самолётов Як-40 находится на хранении, установлено в виде памятников, списано и порезано. Однако инженеры не оставляют попыток всё же вернуть этот легендарный и со всех сторон удачный самолёт в небо — можно вспомнить планы по ремоторизации (из последних новостей — ноябрьские испытания двухдвигательного Як-40 http://www.ato.ru/content/sibnia-pristupil-k-ispytaniyam-dvuhdvigatelnogo-yak-40), а теперь поступают ещё более обнадёживающие новости: тот же самый самолёт теперь полетел с композитным крылом, а к концу года планируется полностью весь фюзеляж сделать из композитных материалов.
