At the joint press conference with US President Joe Biden, I explained that Singapore condemned the unprovoked attack by Russia on Ukraine because it violates international law and the UN Charter.

The sovereignty of all countries, big and small, must be respected.

My thanks to President Joe Biden for the warm welcome to the White House. The U.S. and Singapore have substantial areas of bilateral cooperation, and I am confident that our relationship will continue to grow stronger. 🇸🇬🇺🇸

Had a lively dialogue at the Council on Foreign Relations. We discussed the impact of the invasion on Ukraine, geopolitical issues, global security arrangements, and the climate crisis, among other topics.

Even in the midst of a pandemic, the Ukraine war and geopolitical tensions, the climate crisis remains the existential challenge of our times. Beyond mitigation measures, we must work on adaption, and search for new solutions to address this urgent challenge.

Tomorrow, Muslims in Singapore will begin their fast. I wish our Muslim friends a blessed and fulfilling Ramadan. Selamat menjalani ibadah puasa!

We have been battling COVID-19 for over two years now. It has been the crisis of our generation. Our journey has seen many twists and turns. But at every stage, the Public Service has responded swiftly, ably, and resiliently, working closely with the political leadership, doing its best to stay on top of the situation.

Key to our handling of the crisis has also been trust in the Government - trust that the Government has the best interest of Singapore and Singaporeans at heart, and trust that the Government is competent and will make the right decisions on behalf of Singaporeans.

The political leadership and Public Service must complement and support one another, and trust each other to play their respective roles, and this partnership is crucial.

Today, Tamils celebrate Puthandu, while Sikhs observe Vesakhi. To all our Indian friends celebrating their special occasions, may you and your family be blessed with health and happiness!

Wishing all Christians a blessed Good Friday, and a meaningful Easter weekend with loved ones and fellow faithful.
