INVITATION TO A PUBLIC LECTURE
Humanising the Posthuman in Asia: Digital Labor, Food Delivery, and Openings for the New Human
Posthuman is a social condition of humans losing control, especially to technological forces, and a mode of thinking beyond the anthropocene and enlightenment modernity. Building on the posthuman critique, this talk examines digital labor and food delivery platforms during Covid-19 in Asian contexts, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Singapore. It contends that, while reinforcing inequalities through escalated forms of discrimination and posthuman governance of Big Data and AI, the pandemic also creates openings for progressive change --towards the humanising of the posthuman, and towards the construction of the "new human" at the urban scale. How and why did this happen? What are the implications for digital economies in Asia, and the world? These questions will be discussed.

Jack Linchuan Qiu is Professor and Research Director, the Department of Communications and New Media, the National University of Singapore. He has published numerous books in both English and Chinese including Goodbye iSlave (U of Illinois Press, 2016), World Factory in the Information Age (Guangxi Normal U Press, 2013), and Working-Class Network Society (MIT Press, 2009). Jack is an elected Fellow of the International Communication Association (ICA) and recipient of the C. Edwin Baker Award for the Advancement of Scholarship on Media, Markets and Democracy. He is the President of the Chinese Communication Association (CCA).

2016年3月1日，中國第一部針對家庭暴力問題的全國性法律《反家庭暴力法》開始實施。在問世近五年後，這部法律的實施狀況如何？疫情期間的家暴情況如何？怎樣才能讓不同弱勢群體的權利得到足夠保障？⋯⋯

聚焦這些問題，本次研討將邀請國內一線實務工作者及研究者共同參與討論，嘉賓包括長期從事女性維權工作的資深公益律師、「反家暴小疫苗」志願小組成員、性別暴力相關法律研究者等。歡迎感興趣的朋友報名參加。
