الحرف D له صوت رئيسي:

/d/

حرف D لا يُنطق /t/ في الكلمات العادية.
الذي يُنطق /t/ هو لاحقة -ed عند إضافتها إلى فعل ينتهي بصوت مهموس.
القاعدة:
-ed = /t/ بعد الأصوات: p, k, f, s, sh, ch, th.
worked → /wɜːrkt/
helped → /helpt/
washed → /wɒʃt/

إذا جاء E في نهاية الكلمة، فإنه غالبًا لا يُنطق، لكنه يجعل حرف العلة قبله ينطق باسمه.
