Microsoft is Angry with a Computer Expert

Microsoft is very angry with a computer expert. This expert is a security researcher. He found some problems in Microsoft programs like Windows Defender and BitLocker. These problems are called "bugs" or "vulnerabilities." They can make computers unsafe.

The researcher put the secrets and the code online for everyone to see. He did not tell Microsoft first. Microsoft says this is bad because bad people can use the code to attack computers. Now, Microsoft is threatening to call the police and start a criminal investigation.

However, many security experts are angry with Microsoft. They say Microsoft is wrong to threaten the researcher. They think this will stop other people from finding and reporting bugs in the future.

Microsoft Faces Backlash After Threatening Security Researcher

Microsoft is facing heavy criticism from the cybersecurity community. The company recently threatened to launch a criminal investigation against an independent security researcher. This researcher, known as "Nightmare Eclipse," published several unpatched bugs in Microsoft products, including Windows Defender and BitLocker.

Microsoft argues that the researcher acted irresponsibly. According to the company, publishing the flaws along with the exploit code helps malicious hackers instead of protecting users. They believe researchers should report bugs privately so the company can fix them first.

On the other hand, experts are defending the researcher. They warn that Microsoft’s aggressive approach will create a "chilling effect." This means other experts might become too afraid to report software flaws in the future, making technology less safe.

Microsoft Sparks Outrage Over Threats Against Researcher

A public dispute between Microsoft and a security researcher has reignited a debate over vulnerability disclosure.

Microsoft came under fire after threatening a criminal investigation against a researcher handle-named "Nightmare Eclipse." The researcher had publicly disclosed critical flaws alongside proof-of-concept exploit code.

Microsoft condemned the disclosure as irresponsible. However, industry advocates slammed Microsoft's heavy-handed tactics. Experts warn that weaponizing the law will inevitably backfire, leaving global infrastructure more exposed to cyber threats.
