•Phrasal Verbs

Phrasal verbs combine verbs with adverbs or prepositions ( or sometimes both) to create a new meaning.

•Phrasal verbs can be divided into four main types:


🔖1⃣. Two-part verbs with no object

◇My car broke down on the motorway.


🔖2⃣. Two-part verbs whose object can come between or after the two part.
•However, when the object is a pronoun, it must come between the two parts.

◇He turned down the job offer he received.

◇He received a job offer but he turned it down.


🔖3⃣. Two-part verbs whose object cannot come between the parts.

◇We have to allow for different opinions from staff members.


🔖4⃣. Three-part verbs whose object cannot come between the parts.

◇How do you put up with his comments?
