HOW TO MANAGE INVENTORY IN A THRIFT BUSINESS

Without inventory management, you can lose items and not even know. You also wouldn’t even know the worth of inventory that you have.

Having a simple inventory management process is a super important requirement for running a sustainable thrift business.

Here are the steps to follow to manage your inventory:

1. Buy a stapler, a pack of A4 paper and scissors.

2. Cut up a sheet of A4 paper into small bits that can be used as labels.

3. Using a simple coding system like A001, A002 - write a unique code for each item and staple the paper tag to the label on the item

4. Each new stock of inventory you buy, change the alphabeth in the code. For examples: the next batch of purchase will be coded as B001, B002 and so on. When you get to Z001, the next purchase would be AA001

5. After tagging every item, create a spreadsheet that contains the list of all the inventory items

6. Upload that list into a simple cloud-based retail/inventory software that works on both your laptop and phone.

7. Punch in every sale into the software and update all purchases too into the software. This way, the software perfectly tracks the business inventory
