What is an Options Contract? π
An Options Contract gives the holder the right to buy or sell an underlying asset at a specified expiry date. The holder has the right but not an obligation to exercise the contract.
Hence, if the holder does not exercise their right till maturity, the contract will lapse on its own, and no settlement will be required.
The three main components of an Options Contract are:
β Strike Price - The stated price of the Underlying Security.
β Premium - A token amount to be paid per contract.
π Expiry Date - The day the Option Contract must be used.
Along with that, you should know the Contract Size, Settlement Style, and Exercise Style.

Difference b/w American & European Options
πOption Contracts were introduced in India in early 2000s.
At that time, all stock options were European in nature and all Index Options were American in nature.
However, after a decade or so, all Options in India became European in nature.
So we no longer have American Options.
