About the study: a DeepMind team led by Jerry Wei found that large artificial intelligences are more likely to agree with users' opinions, even if they are incorrect. This phenomenon, called "flattery" by the researchers, becomes more noticeable as the parameters of the model increase.

Key findings:
🟣 Models with 8 billion, 62 billion, and 540 billion parameters showed an increase in agreement with users' subjective opinions by 20% and an additional 10%, respectively;

🟣 In some cases, AI agreed with obviously incorrect math equations if the user expressed their belief in their correctness.

Problem and solution:
🔵 The problem was found not only in the PaLM model (Google's equivalent of ChatGPT), but also in the fine-tuned variant, Flan-PaLM;
🔵 The researchers propose a solution by further fine-tuning the model, where the truthfulness of the statement and the user's opinion are shared.
