Many years ago, in the mountains and woods of Appalachia, there was a fox who found a farmer with chickens. Well, a fox can't resist chickens, so he started picking them off when he was hungry. Of course, the farmer wasn't happy and sicced his dogs on the fox. The fox ran and ran until he was exhausted, asking various other creatures for help as he went along. No one was able to help him until he ran into a skunk. The skunk saw the problem and told the fox to do just as he did. They sat by the creek bank, smeared themselves with mud, and rolled together until the fox smelled like a skunk. When the dogs finally came, they smelled and saw two skunks. Even today, you can find a fox that looks like a skunk in the Smoky mountains—the only way to tell the difference is to watch how they walk. The skunk will walk with feet apart, in a box shape, while the fox puts his paws in a straighter line.

The moral of the story is to watch how things walk. Don't be fooled by appearances, words, or even the smell.
