India Neutralises Pakistan’s HQ-9 Air Defence After Failed Offensive
India has successfully destroyed Pakistan’s HQ-9 air defence system in Lahore in a precise retaliatory strike, following a failed cross-border offensive by Pakistan on the night of May 7–8. According to the Defence Ministry, Pakistan launched drones and missiles targeting Indian military sites in Srinagar, Pathankot, Amritsar, and Bhuj — all of which were intercepted by India’s air defence systems.
In response, India targeted key Pakistani assets, including the Chinese-made HQ-9 missile system and multiple radar sites. Meanwhile, heavy shelling by Pakistan across the Line of Control killed 16 Indian civilians, prompting return fire from Indian forces to silence enemy positions.
The Defence Ministry stressed that India's actions were measured, defensive, and non-escalatory, reaffirming its commitment to peace while ensuring national security.

🧾 Case Title: Shubhkaran Singh v. Abhayraj Singh & Ors.
Supreme Court’s Key Observations :
🔹Order XVIII Rule 17 CPC empowers only the Court to recall a witness for clarification — not for re-examination or cross-examination by parties.
🔹This provision is meant to clarify ambiguities, not to allow parties to fill gaps in their case or introduce new evidence.
🔹Cross-examination on the responses to the Court’s questions is not allowed, unless permitted by the Court under its inherent powers (Section 151 CPC).
🔹The Court noted that recalling a witness at a party’s request for further examination is not the purpose of Rule 17.
🔹Cited K.K. Velusamy v. N. Palanisamy (2011) to reinforce that Order 18 Rule 17 is strictly for Court-led clarifications.
🔹The Supreme Court upheld the MP High Court’s decision, which had rejected the appellant’s plea to recall a witness.
🔹Bench: Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan
