📢 J&K Bar Association Seeks NLU Main Campus in Jammu

The J&K High Court Bar Association (Jammu) has urged CM Omar Abdullah to establish the main campus of the proposed J&K National Law University in Jammu, citing concerns of regional imbalance.

🔹 The NLU is set to begin in April 2026, initially from a temporary campus at Ompora, Budgam, with a ₹50 crore allocation.

🔹 The Association suggested Budgam may continue as a satellite/interim campus, but the permanent headquarters should be in Jammu.

🔹 Concerns were raised over climate, accessibility, and connectivity for students if the main campus is in the Valley.

🔹 Jammu’s strong academic ecosystem (IIT, IIM, University of Jammu) and better year-round connectivity were highlighted.

⚖️ The move, the Association said, would ensure balanced regional development and equitable access to legal education in J&K.

Good news, CLAT Aspirants!

National Law University Meghalaya will accept CLAT 2026 scores for admissions this year.

🚨 IMPORTANT TWIST: Admission will NOT happen through the Centralized CLAT Counselling Portal. Instead, NLU Meghalaya will conduct its own separate counselling process based on CLAT ranks.

Why? Because they joined the Consortium late (Jan 2026), making this a one-time "transitional arrangement".
