Facts: No Kidding! If you Read Directly from a Script, this May Happen!
1. Monotony: Reading directly can lead to up to 30% decrease in audience engagement.
2. Lack of Eye Contact: Focusing on the script can reduce eye contact, making the speaker seem distant. Up to 25% reduction in perceived connection with the audience.
3. Reduced Spontaneity: Reading from a script limits the ability to adapt to audience reactions or questions, decreasing audience responsiveness by up to 20%.
4. Formal Tone: Scripted speeches often sound more formal and less conversational and reduce relatability by up to 15%.
5. Limited Body Language: Reading from a script can restrict natural body language and gestures. This reduction in non-verbal communication effectiveness by up to 20%.

Chris and Will: The problem with too much Information
Chris: Doc, I had a great time delivering an informative speech yesterday. I was surprised I could stuff so much information into such a little time!ππ¦
Dr. Will: Did you notice people sleeping or distracted?ππ΄
Chris: I did, but I couldnβt understand why.
Dr. Will: though you are expected to gather 75% more information on your subject than you need, it is to select the best and the most appropriate. π―
'Time limit' tells you the expectation of your audience. No one expects a 1hour worth of information in 10 minutes. β±οΈ
The more you say, the less they hear. When informing, focus on value and not volume.
Donβt enjoy yourself at the expense of your audience. π΅
Action Points
1. Have you ever experienced information overload?
2. How would you determine the most important information to share?

Wisdom Injectionπ
Herbert A. Simon (1916β2001) was an American scholar whose work shaped computer science, economics, and cognitive psychology. He introduced the concepts of bounded rationality and satisficing in decision-making. Simon was a pioneer in artificial intelligence, information processing, and organization theory. He won the Turing Award (1975) and the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences (1978) for his contributions to these fields.
Deep Reflection
I was so stunned by the irony of this quotation that I spent some minutes pondering on it. Imagine how unnecessary wealth can create poverty!
Quotes are profound statements that stir up wisdom in the hearts of the observant.

DEVELOPING THE DEVELOPER

Chris and Will: Who Are These People?
Chris: Doc, I was invited to speak on βTime Managementβ. But to my surprise, I found myself speaking to a group of retirees! How do you speak on time to people who have already spent most of their time?β°
Dr. Will: So, what did you do?
Chris: I delivered my speech just as I prepared it. π―
Dr. Will: I see you suffer from Audience Ignorance Infection.π©Ί
When speaking, be more interested in knowing your audience than focusing on the topic. The audience must always determine the content and approach. A great content delivered to the wrong audience is a bullet misfired. π«
And if you ever find that you assessed your audience incorrectly, you must be dynamic enough to adapt your content to the current reality. Speak to the audience present and not the audience planned. You are not a slave to your intentions if you can serve the people you can see. π½
Action Points
1. Have you ever seen a speaker address the wrong audience?
2. How would your speech if necessary?
