Hello Dear Friends,

We all know that one of the greatest attributes of an effective public speaker is passion. Unless you are passionate about your subject, how can you stir up excitement in your listeners? Your desire is always to make them feel, by the end of your speech, what you felt at the beginning of that speech. There must be communication and transmission of purpose.

But is there anything like passion gone overboard? Can passion be so much that it derails the substance of a speech?

I want you to check out this 5-minute video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPIvwu-573Y&list=PLlhhbyPZp-bS-i2jlZj8msTHEqWJed1tr

Let me know what you think.

Also, aside from the passion, what else do you think about it?

The Power of Practice

In the school of mastery, practice is indispensable.

According to the Oxford Dictionary, practice is:
The actual application or use of an idea, belief, or method, as opposed to theories relating to it.

It is good to know that you believe you know what you know, BUT the ONLY way to know you know it is through demonstration.

Reading all the books you can lay your hands on about swimming doesn’t make you float in waterπŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ; practice does.

Reading about driving doesn’t make you a driver🚘; practice does. And please, let’s not even talk about flying a planeβœˆοΈπŸ›©!

So, you have learnt a lot about public speaking, read books, and watched professional speakers, BUT you have not practiced???😳😯

Since we have agreed that the best way to improve our public speaking skills is practice, how much practice did you have in the last one month in terms of a live audience size (in total)? You may put your online audience figure in the chat.

Success Wishes to Students Writing Exams

Hello, my dearest students,

Here are my warmest wishes for your ongoing examination. May you enjoy the help of God. May wisdom profit you. And may your result surpass your expectations.

Now, don't forget that an examination is simply a communication of value. Hence, all the rules of effective communication apply:

1. You can't give something out of Nothing. From the abundance of the heart, through studying, you write. πŸ“–

2. Understand your audience: write for your lecturer and not for yourself. Understand the expectations of your Examiner and write from that perspective. πŸ”

3. Mind your language: write with clarity. The hallmark of learning is the full grasp of concepts and issues. Use technical terms in your field that show you are a professional. You are not writing for a layman. But don't overdo it. πŸ“Š

4. Begin with the most important points. When you make sense early, your Examiners will be happy to read the rest. Why do you need to keep them in suspense by keeping the best till last? πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

5. Mind your opening and closing. Even if it is a mathematical equation, a simple statement introducing it can make a difference. πŸ’―

6. Pay attention to details. Excellence is seen in details. πŸ₯Έ

7. Don't rush too much. Manage your time appropriately⏳. There is no prize for the 1st person to complete the exam, only the person who passes. πŸ₯‡

8. Have a positive attitude. Rejoice always. πŸ’ƒπŸ»

9. Keep that smile on, it looks good on you. πŸ˜„

I am waiting right here to celebrate your testimony.

SPEAKING WITH PURPOSE

Hello Dear Friends,

I trust you are doing great today.

This has been on my mind for a couple of days, and I thought to share it with you.

As a speaker, your mouth is the world’s window to your heart. Whenever you speak, people catch a glimpse of your thoughts. πŸͺŸ

Anytime you open your mouth, people never see you the same way anymore. πŸ₯Έ When you speak, one of three things may happen:

1. They give you a double-take because they didn’t expect that level of insight πŸ’―
2. They are shocked because they expected more 😭
3. It reinforces what they have always known about (good or bad)πŸ“Š

If you say a word, they believe you have a thousand more unspoken. That is why if wisdom is heard from you, they believe there is more and vice versa.

β€œFor out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”

If you agree, reply with: I will speak with purpose!

A New Attitude for a New Year

Hello Dear Friends,

I am excited to welcome you to our channel in 2026. πŸŽ‰πŸŽŠ

Thank God for 2025; now, 2026 must be a lot better. Whatever level of communication we had, we must do better this year. However, it is not about wishing for it, but rather about taking the right kind of action.
Our goal this year as a public speaking channel is to consolidate our learning by adding a LOT of practical sessions. We will drive active communication through exciting activities.

Please make sure that you don’t miss anything.πŸ’―

To make the most of this year, whether in public speaking or life in general, we must not approach it in the same way we did last year🚫. Something must be significantly different.

Here is a personal lesson I learnt on how best to approach a new year: https://shorturl.at/Kd9dm

I look forward to reading what you learnt from it.
Please drop a chat. ✍🏻
Warmest 2026 regards❀️

What are Your Speaking Goals for 2026?

Hello Dear Friends,

I trust your week has been great so far.

It is often said that
practice makes perfect,

but considering that we are all lifelong students, and perfection will always remain a goal, I prefer Les Brown’s version:
Practice makes improvement.

Any skill you desire but don’t practice will forever remain a fantasy. 🀩😴

When I started lecturing, I decided that every class would serve as a public speaking training for me. So, I have been learning for over 22 years, and I still aim to get much better!πŸ€—

Do you desire to become a better speaker in 2026? Then you need to be deliberate. You plan every other thing in your life, so why not your communication skills?🎀

If you are serious about this, please do the following:
1. Make a list of 5 areas you would like to improve in your speaking ✍🏻
2. State what you plan to do to improve and how frequently you will do it πŸ“–

The list is for your personal development, but if you are willing to share it in the chat, I am sure it will encourage someone.

So, who goes first? πŸ˜„
❀22πŸ”₯3πŸ₯°1
Chris and Will: I Just Forgot

Chris: Doc, I wanted to be precise in my presentation, so I memorised the entire speech.🀯

Will: How did that work for you?πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

Chris: Well, at first, until I blanked out halfway through the speech. I stared at the audience and they stared back at me.😒

Will: Ah, you had a case of Scriptitis Memorabilis! πŸ“–

Memorising a whole script may seem like the safest way to avoid mistakes, but it can be a trap for speakers. When your brain is focused on every single word, a single forgotten line can make the whole thing fall apart.

Managing an audience and a mental script at the same time can cause a major distraction. A speaker must be careful not to allow what was meant to help to become an obstacle.🚧

Action Points
1. Have you ever memorised your speech and how was the experience?
2. What do you think is the greatest risk of memorising your script?
