i am genuinely surprised that vrchat hasn't found a way to implement a halo theater recording system
think about how many terabytes of content recorded in vrchat exist. some good, most awful, but that's not the point: it would be quite a bit more interesting to have a text-based format to replay stuff.
i know halo worked as easily as it did because it's fixed, normal animations and approximated movement based on coordinates, but would it be so different for vr? your game world is still just those same cartesian coords, just with 3 main control options. use the same scripting to interpolate model animations as normal.
my idea goes something like this: all input and tracking info is stored as a text file, written at a certain rate as defined by the user (think framerates). if you're recording audio or if the recording is based on in-world events, this info is packaged in the header. the final product would be a folder with the replay script text file, any audio required, and a pointer to the world used so you can begin a private instance for yourself and have everything work right.
there are many benefits to this:
>vrchat faggots can FUCK OFF MY FUCKING YOUTUBE FEED
>fans of vrchat content can experience it in first person, with a reasonably compact file size, and replay/modify/move around it just like halo theater
>distribution of the content would take place in game, or through catbox/mediafire
>did i mention these faggots can fuck off from my feed? please fuck off from my feed. i don't play or like vrchat
