this is a fun series to watch, but god fucking damn, the blues are coming across as controlled opposition. absolute goddamned retardation at every turn here.
Reds:
>1 combat transport, 1 gunship, ~4 hydromen
that's it. that's all they brought to this fight.
Blues:
>control of densely armed hard point, almost repaired corvette, about 3/4 of a corvette with point jump capability
Both sides:
>numerous fighters in reserve, none used
>mining vessels
>nearly unlimited resources from stupid projects (tldr there)
this all started way earlier in the show when the blues managed to kick red team out of kodibo shipyard through pure luck and mid tactics, and they "held" the shipyard pretty much only because the reds were too busy working on a medium-size grid printer and retrofitting their transport for combat. blues held the shipyard for quite a while, and had ample opportunity to make sure their defenses were up, but they completely fucking flaked because they were too busy repairing the Styx-class corvette in the yard.
so red team pulls up completely dark, bashes the blues' shit in (beginning with an accidental missile salvo lmao) and almost destroys the Styx within a couple minutes. blues had ZERO fighters on station, none of their defenses were working, and the reds were able to walk in and take the base unarmed. 3 guys went in after losing their shit in an asteroid collision and STILL managed to take control of the shipyard with near-zero resistance, because none of the blues except one or two had a sidearm.
blue team was getting absolutely hammered, so Stigz decides to call up their corvette under construction to point jump in the AO and start firing on the enemy grids. they have fighters fueled and ready, but because none of them were jump-capable and the corvette didn't have a hangar, they decided to just fuckin send it and jump anyway. they didn't check their ammo correctly, their armor wasn't even welded up properly, none of the controls were set up, but they just loaded up and jumped. their corvette lasted about 2 minutes. red team opened up on them and split their brand new corvette in half with a couple torpedo and missile salvos. somehow, the blues managed to get away with the Styx more or less flyable, but lost the shipyard and what amounts to their flagship.
what the fuck. i mean really, what the fuck.
both teams had the ability to churn out fighters quickly, blue team had a couple still, but instead of taking an extra couple of minutes to check their ammo and wait for a fighter complement they just point jumped into combat outgunned and outnumbered 2:1. yeah, the blues had the Styx in drydock, but who gives a fuck? that ship was about a day away from being combat ready, and their corvette was easily 2 days away or more; counting configuration and ammo production. even if they had taken one fighter, just one, it could have harassed the slower retrofit and maybe even popped one of its semi-exposed hydrogen tanks. a couple autocannon magazines would have left one of their corvettes completely dead in the water or on retreat. sure, by that time the reds may have taken the shipyard more or less, but that would have worked in the blue's favor: all the reds would be either too busy taking the station or getting one of their ships back to base.

what the blues *should* have done is fairly obvious: well before the reds even pulled up, all the defenses should have been prepped and online with plenty left in the magazines. they should also have had at least one or two well-equipped fighters on station, because fighters are cheap and fast to assemble even when you're talking medium-size small grids with decent armament. two fighters with remotely competent fighters would have either totally repelled the attack in conjunction with base defenses, or kept the reds out of the dooryard for long enough to get the incomplete corvette ready for jump. after jumping, they should have kept distance and used the local asteroid field for cover, understanding that the enemy is very fond of missiles and torpedoes instead of unguided ballistic weapons (which they also had but whatever).
naturally, this was an unnecessary bloodbath for the blues. they're totally fucked now, they lost a good chunk of their materials in the base and an entire (expensive) corvette with a jump drive. so realistically, this has set the blues back to square one while the reds now control the entire local system and have enough resources and grids to take the enemy base *easily*.
as is so often with this kind of series, basic tactics and an ounce of prevention would have prevented pounds of loss. these people get too caught up in the spectacle and bite off more than they can chew. then, when they get their shit kicked in, they sit and wonder why they never make headway. well, if you had taken the time and effort to secure what you had and properly arm yourself, this wouldn't have happened.
so yeah, blue team is screwed and the reds have basically won already. it's going to be a wonder if they can recover anything at this point.

Rockman & Forte - Ground Man [YM2612 + 2A03]
Enjoyed doing this, basically doing more of a remake than remix or cover, loved the original theme so it was just nice to mess with the song. Anyway, here's some FUN facts about Ground Man
