What is the Difference Between LPG and PNG?
What is LPG?
LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is a commonly used cooking fuel in India. It mainly contains propane and butane gases, which are stored in liquid form under pressure inside cylinders.

These cylinders are delivered to homes after booking, and once the gas is used, a refill is required. LPG is widely available across both urban and rural areas, making it one of the most accessible fuels.

What is PNG?
PNG (Piped Natural Gas) is a cleaner fuel supplied directly to homes through underground pipelines. It mainly consists of methane, which burns efficiently and produces fewer pollutants.

Unlike LPG, PNG does not require storage cylinders. It is available continuously, just like water or electricity, and is billed based on usage through a meter.

The distribution and regulation of PNG in India are managed by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board. PNG is mostly available in urban areas where pipeline infrastructure has been developed.

Strait of Hormuz
The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow sea passage located between Iran in the north and Oman and United Arab Emirates in the south.
It connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, which further opens into the Arabian Sea.
This makes it the only sea route for oil-rich Gulf countries to send their energy resources to the rest of the world.
The Strait of Hormuz is not very wide. At its narrowest point, it is about 32 kilometers (20 miles) across.

United Nations declared 2026 the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP).

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is the lead agency implementing the year.

Rangelands cover about 54% of the Earth's surface and include grasslands, savannahs, deserts, and tundra.

They store roughly one-third of the planet’s carbon reservoir.

Approximately 200 to 500 million pastoralists worldwide manage these lands, herding about one billion animals and contributing to one-sixth of the global food supply.

United Nations is observing two other themes alongside IYRP in 2026:

International Year of the Woman Farmer.

International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development.
