A goal to provide vision to a billion people.
That’s Lenskart.
I’m in India, their factory, and the amount engineering it takes to produce a pair of glasses is INSANE.
I’ve documented the CEO, Peyush Bansal, who is also in Shark Tank India, showcasing how lenses are made.
From eye test > mounting lens > surfacing > edging > polishing > coating > with QC being done throughout > sorting > warehousing > logistics & delivery
And all these within 24-48 hours?!
.. and to make it very affordable with the quality of glasses?!
They even make 2 pair of glasses for $50 for kids! 🤯

I met Peyush Bansal, CEO & Founder of Lenskart.
He didn’t come from money.
He didn’t inherit a business.
And he definitely didn’t choose the easy route.
Peyush Bansal made it to Microsoft, working one of the world’s dream jobs, but deep down, to him, something wasn’t right.
He had everything most people chase… but not the one thing that drives founders like him, Purpose.
So, he quit. Left the comfort & stability.
Came back to India, to solve a problem most people didn’t even see as a problem:
Eyewear. Solving Myopia.
Note: Over 2.6 billion people worldwide have myopia.

Things I learnt from a $6.1 billion company, Lenskart, from Peyush Bansal, CEO.
1- striving for improvement, not just but 10% but by 10X, to think “how can this be improved 10X” for exponential growth.
2- be obsessed about your customers, very very obsessed, the single most important principle behind Amazon’s success
3- talents in business, they speak of the CEO, they lead, build and disrupt, shaping the future of the company.
4- Impact>Profit. Striving for impact and change! Providing immense value. Wealth will come as a bi-product.
2nd Day today and more to learn!

Great companies are built by amazing talents.
I realised this when I spent 3 days with the Lenskart team.
The thinkers. The builders. The quiet geniuses behind the scenes!
I became more picky with hiring too.
An A-lister may cost more, but they deliver 5x the output in half the time.
B-listers fill hours, A-listers drive results. It’s not about saving on salary, it’s about investing in excellence.
One great hire is worth more than five average ones.
Even better example, Meta poaching OpenAI’s best talents.
Speaking of that,
- hiring a producer/interviewer (up to $3500)
- community manager (up to $4,500)

I had a trial of Entrepreneur’s Sunday, where my vision is to create a circle of whom I trust and look up to in the business world.
Bounce ideas and learn together.
Simple plan.
8AM Cold Plunge 1 degree 3 minutes
830 AM Breakfast and just talk on just about anything!
No ending, just leave when you feel like it.
This session alone, the first time, bouncing around ideas with other entrepreneurs, I’ve discovered revenue streams I didn’t know I could do.
And these ideas are not distractions/noise, they MAKE SENSE.
Also learnt a lot of valuable pointers with how their week is.
To make this at a bigger scale I think it’s a challenge.. with venue and logistics, we’ll see where life takes me. As for now, MAKE YOUR OWN!

Ryu Kintaro, 9 year old entrepreneur, my youngest friend.
I was in disbelief when he called me to arrange a collaboration. A kid’s voice talking like a grown man?!
He arranged to PICK ME UP?!
“My driver and I will pick you up after my shoot.”
WHICH 9 YEAR OLD SAYS STUFF LIKE THAT?!
Anyways cut it short, he really impressed me.
My son is going to start a business as soon as he turns 9 months.
On a serious note, this is what his dad taught me about parenting.
1- keep gadgets to a minimal for kids, Ryu only used it to run his business and liaise for collaborations.
2- Ryu and his dad would spend time talking to each other to sleep, to recap, reflect and learn from each other.
The second one really blows my mind on how small improvements and meaningful conversations can have a BIG IMPACT!
To Ryu and your dad, thanks for having me in Indonesia. ❤️🇮🇩

As a bootstrap start up, you don’t have a lot to give back to the staff in the beginning and I am not the best employer out there and…
This quote made me a better person.
“Take care of your staff,
Your staff will take care of your clients,
Your clients will take care of your business.”
This advice was given from Michael Teoh, who runs Thriving Talents.
He won the best employer award, and invested 30%-40% back to his employees, creating another set of funds and benefits for them,
DOUBLED his revenue in that year.
Upon hearing that, I created a development fund and a set of benefits for my employees.

Reflection:
The job market is now bad, more and more unemployment, and replacements made with AI.
There are more people losing jobs than there are being hired back into new ones.
Where do all these people go when the economy can’t absorb them fast enough?

I want to nurture my team, to be better individuals.
I’ve sent them courses about communications, investments, leadership.
What courses do you guys recommend for myself and my team to attend?

Had a conversation, with a great friend that was brought up by a single mom, and thought of asking you guys too.
“Looking at where you are now, how do you think your mother feels about who you’ve become?”

Hiring was my best decision.
Hiring was also my worst.
When you get the right person on your team, someone who believes in the vision, takes ownership, and grows with you.
It changes everything.
We’ll move faster. We’ll think bigger. You’re not building alone. We are together.
But when I hired the wrong person? It costs more than just salary. 😓
It costs time, energy, culture, and sometimes, momentum.
To me, talent is everything.
A company is only as strong as the people behind it. The right talent doesn’t just fill a role, they elevate it.
Over time, I’ve learned:
• Hire slow, fire fast, no chances.
• Values > Portfolio/Resume
• Energy is contagious, protect your culture.
• Hire when more than 1 thing makes sense, not just for a task, towards vision and mission.
What’s the best (or worst) hiring decision you have made?
