Ruling of Congregational Nafl Prayer
Question
What do the scholars of Islam and the jurists say regarding the following issue?
On the 25th night of the last ten days of Ramadan, Zaid went to the mosque and the rows of worshippers extended up to the street. Zaid also intended to join the prayer. However, a person who was with him said:
> “This congregation is Makruh Tahrimi (prohibitively disliked). It is better to go to another mosque and perform your Nafl prayers individually.”
He then took Zaid away from there.
Is this opinion a unique view of Molana Husain Ahmad Madani?
It seems that the Madani family still practices this because of that view, while the position of Darul Uloom Deoband is that it is disliked.
Please guide us with a detailed and evidence-based explanation. Is Tahajjud prayer in congregation Makruh?

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate
According to the Hanafi jurists, any voluntary prayer (Nafl) including Tahajjud, when performed in congregation with public arrangement, is Makruh.
Meaning of “Tada‘i”
“Tada‘i” means that more than three people join the congregation besides the Imam.

Among the scholars of Deoband, all scholars agree on this ruling except Molana Husain Ahmad Madani, therefore it is considered his individual opinion.

He writes:

هناك بحث قيم من الدكتور لؤي الخليلي يناقش فيه عدد كتب ظاهر الرواية في مذهب الحنفية، ويرجح الدكتور أن الأرجح في العدد خمسة لا ستة، كما أنه أتى بتعريف وجيز بتلكم الكتب الخمسة
وأضاف الدكتور أن الكافي للحاكم الشهيد اختصار للأصل وليس لجميع كتب ظاهر الرواية

عن عبدالله بن عباس رضي الله عنهما : أن رسولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلَّم اتخذَ خاتمًا فلبِسَه فقال :
"شغلني هذا عنكم منذُ اليومَ ، إليه نظرةٌ وإليكم نظرةٌ، ثم ألقاه ". ( صحيح النسائي - 5304 )
"وهذا من أدب النبوة في المجالس أن لا ينشغل المرء عن جلسائه بل يمنع أسباب ذلك"

The real dilemma, however, is with those so-called "global moon sighting" people who claim to follow any sighting in the world but, in reality, just follow Saudi.
Saudi says Eid is Friday, so if they were truly consistent, they would celebrate Eid with Afghanistan on Thursday.
They won't, of course.

قال مولانا السيد أحمد رضا البجنوري رحمه الله: «حضرة شيخ الإسلام مولانا حسين أحمد صاحب شيخ الحديث بدار العلوم ديوبند نور الله مرقده:
وكان فضيلته أيضا إبان تدريسه لصحيح البخاري وجامع الترمذي في دار العلوم ديوبند، يرد بشدة بالغة على تفردات الحافظ ابن تيمية رحمه الله في العقائد والمسائل الفرعية، وقد بين أنه إبان إقامته في المدينة المنورة طالع تصانيفه ورسائله، ووقف على بعض كتبه التي قلما توجد في مكتبات الهند، ومن خلال مطالعة ذلك كله، قال: توصلت على بصيرة إلى نتيجة، وهي أن هناك عدولا وانحرافا صريحا عن منهج أهل السنة والجماعة في طياتها. وكان يورد مقولة حضرة الشاه عبد العزيز رحمه الله تأييدا لقوله، حيث إن الشاه رحمه الله بعد أن طالع كتاب "منهاج السنة" وغيره من مؤلفات الحافظ ابن تيمية، وجه إليه انتقادات شديدة.
يراجع "مكتوبات شيخ الإسلام" المجلد الرابع، وقد قام فضيلته أيضا في كتابه "الشهاب الثاقب" برد مفصل ومدلل على عقائد الوهابية والتيمية». (أنوار الباري شرح صحيح البخاري ج١١ ص٤٦٣-٤٦٤)
