BEFORE SLEEPING KNOW THIS...

IN THE SCORCHING HEAT OF Thar Desert and the dry forests of Tamil Nadu, some extraordinary Indian trees survive summers not by finding water… but by BECOMING WATER TANKS themselves. Species like Terminalia tomentosa quietly store litres of water inside their trunks, roots, and bark during monsoon… then slowly use it to survive brutal droughts.

Forest communities discovered this wisdom generations ago. In peak summer, experienced locals can identify certain mature trees with hidden water cavities simply by looking at slight swellings on the bark. Tap the trunk carefully… and drinkable water flows out from inside the tree itself.!!

BEFORE SLEEPING KNOW THIS...

FOR 15 YEARS, while most people escaped the summer heat, Harpal Singh Pali drove a tractor-tanker deep into the burning Shivalik Hills every alternate day carrying WATER for wild animals. As lakes dried and forests cracked under extreme heat, deer, wild boars, blue bulls, and peacocks began waiting for one sound — the arrival of his tractor.

Using his OWN MONEY, without donations or government support, Pali created and refilled 25 water holes across nearly 5 kilometres of forest so animals would not enter villages searching for water. Fuel prices increased. Maintenance costs rose. Still, he never stopped. He even dedicates 10% of his income to wildlife welfare.

IN Jodhpur, while temperatures continue becoming deadly and cities consume massive electricity through air conditioners, a simple public shelter stays up to 8°C COOLER than outside… WITHOUT USING ACs.

Built for delivery riders, street vendors, daily wage workers, and senior citizens standing for hours under brutal heat, this net-zero cooling shelter uses old Indian wisdom mixed with smart engineering. Solar reflective roofs bounce sunlight away. Wet khus curtains naturally cool the air. A wind tower pushes hot air out. Solar panels run fans and mist systems with minimal energy.

The result? A breathable cooling space for 40–45 people even during Rajasthan’s peak summer heat.

Kallur Balan of Palakkad reportedly planted nearly 25 lakh trees—without government funding, corporate sponsorship, or a large environmental movement behind him.
Starting around year 2001, he spent years carrying saplings across barren and rocky land in Palakkad, Thrissur, and Malappuram, planting them one by one while most people merely discussed climate change.
Today, his efforts have transformed over 100 acres into thriving forests filled with neem, bamboo, tamarind, birds, and wildlife.

Badri Mishra is a writer, environmentalist, tireless blood donor but we need to salute him for something else.
He has performed 1200 cremations for the abandoned and unclaimed.
His two-wheeler always carries white cloth and cremation essentials, because he never knows when the next call for help will come.
From the 1999 Odisha Supercyclone to the Gujarat and Nepal earthquakes, Mishra has crossed state and national borders to give the dead a rest with dignity.
Refusing money, he funds every ritual himself.
