Hello everyone !

Welcome to the Know Millets Telegram channel !! This channel has been created to disseminate information about the Know Millets Webinars (KMW) in the next few weeks. We shall continue the channel as a source for verified (and verifiable) information regarding millets. This channel is managed by The Millet Foundation (TMF). It is a public channel and anyone can join this, so please feel free to share the link to the channel. KMW is being presented by TMF in collaboration with the Revitalizing Rain fed Agriculture Network's Working Group on Millets.

A Telegram Channel is a one way communication medium. As admin a few of us shall be posting messages on the channel. We shall endeavor to keep the messages here short, crisp and to the point. And yes, as few as possible. The messages are posted at the discretion of the admin. The messages should not be seen to reflect the official stand of any organization or associates or partner groups that the admin might be associated with.

If you would like to discuss about millets, there is an associated discussion group - Know Millets - discussions. Members are welcome to join that group to discuss about millets, share experiences and also pose questions for others / experts to answer or share information that you would like posted on the channel.

Dear friend,

Thank you for acting on your interest to know more about millets and registering for the Know Millet Webinars 2020. There has been an overwhelming response to the webinar series and we look forward to an engaging and mutually energizing interaction over the 10 sessions planned in the webinars.

The first webinar of the series shall be
from 3 PM to 4 PM
on Monday, May 4th, 2020
and the topic of the webinar is

Community centric approach - cultivation, processing, consumption

Many of us are questioning the current food system. Some are working to change the current paradigm of farming and food systems to more sustainable practices. Some amongst these realize that the renewed interest in millets among the public presents an opportunity to steer our food and farming processes to a more just and equitable, and therefore sustainable basis.

In order to derive the nutritional benefits that millets offer, a shorter and tighter supply chain would be necessary. In this session, we shall see why this is the case and how a community centric focus follows from this. We shall also try and picturize what this would translate to for the producer communities, trading entities and consumer communities.

The presentation, link to the livestream on youtube and the Q&A during the session (compiled and detailed) shall be posted on the webinar page. Feel free to check it out at your convenience.

To participate in the webinar, there are two options.

1. On Zoom (need to install Zoom application in your Android/iPhone/PC/Mac/Linux device)
If you are logging in early enough, you shall be able to join the webinar on Zoom at: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85002088031 . During the webinar we look forward to your comments and questions via the Q&A window/screen in Zoom. The moderator shall select questions for discussion in the second half of the session. Please note that your microphones shall be muted to avoid delays and your cameras shall not be enabled in the interest of bandwidth.

2. On YouTube (need only a web browser)
In case you are unable to join the zoom session, you can still join the webinar via the live streaming on YouTube. Please visit the webinar page for the link to the YouTube Livestream. Please post your questions and comments as Live Comments on the YouTube LiveStream. Volunteers shall be continuously collating the comments and sharing it with the moderator of the webinar to discuss in the second half of the session.

There is also an associated Telegram Group Know Millets - discussions for interaction among the subscribers.
