Today we are launching Dataset.ET โ an open community initiative to build the largest dataset for Ethiopian languages.
Why this matters:
Most AI systems today barely understand Amharic, Afaan Oromo, Tigrinya, Somali, and many other Ethiopian languages. Without datasets, AI will ignore our languages.
Dataset.ET is changing that.
What we are building:
โข Speech datasets
โข Text datasets
โข Community-validated language corpora
โข Open infrastructure for Ethiopian AI

No one here is paying me 155x my effort, so I stopped working with local clients like 1 and half year ago. (same for @Natyiu0). If you trust your skills and have solid projects (not just AI to do lists), go to YC startups, find early stage founders on LinkedIn or X, and DM them. Twitter Premium helps and its worth it.
If youโre good, you can land a $1k internship for 1โ2 months. Go all in, and it can turn into a $3kโ$4k full-time role. Iโve seen it happen. If youโre not there yet, build. 2โ4 hours a day. One strong project every week for 4 weeks. Post on X (views donโt matter), then start DMing.
Keep building, make projects more complex over time. Just make side projects a habit. Rewire your brain.
