Imagine an entire hour of songs, with many views, meaning they are being replayed over and over.
They lean toward the easy solution, not realizing the negative impact this has on the child's faith by accustoming them to it, as well as on their health.
Allah Almighty says:
“O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones.”
[Surat At-Tahrim]
And the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is responsible for his flock.”
Doctors have said much about the harm of children spending too much time in front of screens, and the repetitive melodies that are played over and over in long sessions, which make children sit in front of them for extended periods.
According to the Alhurra website:
"A study published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics showed that children who watched screens for an average of two hours a day performed worse later, at age nine, in executive functions.
The researchers defined executive functions, which are linked to long-term academic success, as ‘a set of cognitive skills essential for self-regulation, learning, academic achievement, and mental health.’
The study was conducted on more than 400 children.
Jennifer Ashton, a medical correspondent for ABC News, said the researchers conducted EEGs (electroencephalograms) on the children to study their brain waves over about 18 months and then linked the amount of screen time in early childhood to their performance on memory and attention tests at age nine.”
There are dozens of studies on this subject. I know very well that such studies influence many people more than religious rulings—unfortunately. We are just trying to save what we can.

Note: the translation of the image has a mistake. According to the story, he told her that she is divorced if he is not one of the people of Jannah (Paradise).
______
This story is very widespread—I’ve heard it since I was a child.
Its summary is that Harun al-Rashid said to his wife: "You are divorced if I am not among the people of Paradise." Then he was unsure whether she was divorced or not, so he sought a jurist to find a way out. Al-Layth ibn Saʿd came and found a loophole for him, saying: “Recite Surah al-Rahman.” When he reached the verse: {But for he who has feared the position of his Lord are two gardens}, al-Layth said to him: “Swear that you fear the position of your Lord, and you will have two gardens.”
This story has become very common among people, but it is not authentic and leans closer to being munkar.

This story has become very common among people, but it is not authentic and leans closer to being munkar.
It was reported by Abu Nuʿaym in Hilyat al-Awliya and by al-Silafi in al-Tuyuriyyat. In its chain of narration is Abu al-ʿAla al-Hasan ibn Yusuf ibn Salih, whom I could not find a biography for, and Abu al-Hasan al-Khadim, who is unknown (as the editor of al-Tuyuriyyat noted—and correctly so).
What’s correct is that such a statement—asserting for oneself a place in Paradise—is a form of irjāʾ (a theological position minimizing the importance of deeds), because a believer does not know what his ultimate fate will be.
Imam Malik used to issue fatwas that whoever said, "My wife is divorced if I am among the people of Paradise," should indeed be separated from his wife, because one does not know his fate.
Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani explained the reasoning behind this ruling in his work al-Dhabb ʿan Madhhab al-Imam Malik [2/684], saying:
Ibn Abi Zayd means: a person does not know if they are from the people of Paradise, so it's like doubting whether one’s wife is his sister by breastfeeding—he must separate from her as a precaution (due to strong indicators, not baseless doubts).
Al-Khallal reported in al-Sunnah:
Sufyan’s statement: “We do not know our status before Allah” does not align with someone who affirms he is among the people of Paradise and bases a divorce on that.
What’s mentioned in the story is inappropriate self-praise.
Ibn Abi Shaybah said in al-Iman:
This is an authentic chain of narration. It shows that Ibn Masʿud disapproved of anyone making such a claim that implies certainty of being among the people of Paradise—let alone swearing by it!
In conclusion, this story is unreliable, and its content contradicts sound Islamic principles and the cautious stance of the early scholars.
Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani explained the reasoning behind this ruling in his work al-Dhabb ʿan Madhhab al-Imam Malik [2/684], saying:
"Suppose a man has a wife, and he is certain she is lawfully his. Then he begins to doubt—perhaps she is actually his sister by blood or breastfeeding—would he remain with her in that case? Of course not. This aligns with legal principles, because prohibition is given more weight than permissibility. A thing is considered forbidden with the least cause, while being deemed permissible requires greater proof. For example, if a man divorces even part of his wife (with a complete divorce), she becomes forbidden to him, and must observe ʿiddah (waiting period); however, if he were to marry part of her, that wouldn’t make her lawful. Also, a woman divorced thrice doesn’t become lawful again until she marries and consummates that marriage with another husband—this is a strong indication of how serious the law treats prohibition. Therefore, the matter at hand is even stronger in imposing separation. Because the one making the oath is not overtaken by doubt unintentionally, but he deliberately introduces uncertainty upon himself by saying: ‘If I’m not among the people of Paradise, then she is divorced.’ He is intentionally putting himself in doubt."
“969 – Sulayman al-Ashʿath told us, I heard Ahmad [ibn Hanbal] say that Yahya [ibn Saʿid] said: Sufyan [al-Thawri] disapproved of saying: ‘I am a believer.’
Sulayman said: Ahmad told us, Wakiʿ told us that Sufyan said: ‘People, according to us, are believers regarding legal rulings and inheritance—we hope they are [true believers], but we do not know our status before Allah.’”
Sufyan’s statement: “We do not know our status before Allah” does not align with someone who affirms he is among the people of Paradise and bases a divorce on that.
What’s mentioned in the story is inappropriate self-praise.
Ibn Abi Shaybah said in al-Iman:
"23 – Wakiʿ narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Abu Wa’il, who said: A man came to ʿAbdullah [ibn Masʿud] and said: ‘I met a group and asked them, “Who are you?” They said, “We are the believers.”’
So he [Ibn Masʿud] said: ‘Why didn’t they just say: We are the people of Paradise?’”

Lately, I’ve been seeing tweets from people proudly flaunting what they call the "Pharaonic civilization."
It doesn't take much skill to realize that many of them are either Christians or atheists. However, such rhetoric can influence people, especially in times of societal tension, when much of the anger stemming from helplessness is misdirected.
I saw a tweet from a young woman engaging in these intellectual battles with the mindset of women boasting among themselves—this one flaunts her dress, that one her hair, and another this or that. Her pride was in something either created by God or achieved through the labor of her guardian.

She posted a picture of golden sandals—remnants of the "Pharaonic civilization"—and claimed that when her ancestors were wearing golden shoes, the Arabs were barefoot and naked.
I thanked God for the blessing of reason and moved on. But the matter returned to me, prompting me to open a topic I've long wanted to explore.
Certainly, we don’t take such nonsense seriously. True honor lies in piety and obedience to God. A person who unifies and worships God while naked is better than one who wears the finest garments as a polytheist. {Indeed, the most honorable of you in the sight of God is the most righteous} [Al-Hujurat].
Beyond that, this example itself illustrates the virtue of Islam for humanity. Such displays of pride usually emerge in deeply classist societies—where the extremely wealthy exist alongside those who can’t even afford food. This could be shameful: one person wears golden sandals while another walks barefoot, unable to find anything to wear.
This is an article by Delphine Driaux, an Egyptologist and Deputy Director of the Middle Egypt Project at the University of Vienna. She says:
"We still know very little about the poor in ancient Egypt. Archaeologists and historians perhaps bear some responsibility for this. Their study topics are often based on available data, which typically consists of well-preserved artifacts and monuments—mostly belonging to the wealthy. Therefore, studies of Egyptian society are inevitably biased, based on a small segment of the population."
She concluded that the poor were so crushed that they left no trace in history (despite being the majority). Yet, some descendants of those very people—or even of Romans, Persians, Berbers, or others who lived in Egypt—boast about those who oppressed their own ancestors, to compensate for an inferiority complex!
Meanwhile, the Islamic system of Zakat—let alone endowments and voluntary charity—is enough to prevent such misery, except in cases where faith is lacking. It wouldn’t be like it was in the days of the Pharaohs.
Historical readings of Egyptology are not free from bias and often fill gaps with the speaker’s desires. You have symbols that serve a narrative.
For example, Dr. Joyce Tyldesley, an Egyptologist from the University of Manchester, said:
"Queen Nefertiti was merely one of a series of powerful queens who played influential roles in Egyptian history, but she never ruled Egypt."
That is, she wasn’t a pharaoh.
Making her a queen-regnant is a fabrication by some, supported by modern feminist narratives. Feminists rejoice in it, even though she and others like her were loyal servants of patriarchal, indeed classist and oppressive, regimes that brought them to where they were.

Allah the Almighty said in the continuation of the verse cited:
“And when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and they rely upon their Lord.” [Al-Anfal]
Ironically, most of the Ash‘arites and the generality of the Maturidites deny the increase and decrease of faith, and they go to great lengths to reject the clear indication of this verse.
Abu al-Mu‘in al-Nasafi stated in “Al-‘Aqa’id al-Nasafiyyah”:
“If it is established that faith is belief, and that belief in itself does not increase, then it follows that faith neither increases nor decreases; it is not augmented by acts of obedience nor diminished by acts of disobedience, since belief remains the same in both states.”
However, the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Truly, in the body there is a morsel of flesh: if it is sound, the entire body is sound.”
So one whose belief is sound is not equal to one whose belief is corrupt. Everyone agrees that in matters of theological dispute, there is right and wrong.
Allah said:
“If you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day.” [An-Nisa’]
Either there are those who referred matters to Allah and His Messenger and were correct, while others did not and thus went astray — or else, according to the opposing view, Allah and His Messenger have no say in the matters of divinity, predestination, and faith — subjects over which the Ummah has fiercely disputed. And that is an utterly vile claim.
Allah said:
“And We did not reveal the Book to you except that you may clarify to them what they differed about, and as guidance and mercy for a people who believe.” [An-Nahl]
The Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate:
“I ask You for the delight of gazing upon Your Face and the longing to meet You.”
So is the longing of one who believes in Allah’s Face and Attributes like that of one who denies all of this and claims that the vision of Him will be some strange occurrence without direction or form, and ultimately interprets the beatific vision as simply an increase in knowledge?
Most of the scenes of the Hereafter relate to His Attributes, Exalted is He. The Prophets will say that Allah has become angry in a way He never was before. People will address Adam as one whom Allah created with His own Hand, and Moses as one whom Allah spoke to directly and favored uniquely. Allah will uncover His Shin, and the believers will prostrate to Him. He will manifest to them smiling. He will take a handful (of souls) and bring them out of the Fire into Paradise. He will scoop with His Hand. He will place His Foot on Hell, and it will say: "Enough! Enough!" He will shelter His servant under His protection. He will speak to them without an interpreter. The Prophet ﷺ will prostrate beneath His Throne. He will draw near to the oppressed one who was killed unjustly. He will call out with a voice that is heard equally by those near and far. He will veil Himself from the disbelievers, while the believers will see Him — which is the greatest reward they anticipate.
So who is more miserable than one who denied the Pond, the Scale, and the Bridge, than one who rejected His Attributes and interpreted all these matters as mere metaphors, thus transforming the Day of Judgment into something entirely different? Such a person would share in the judgment of Allah:
“They are those who disbelieve in the signs of their Lord and in meeting Him, so their deeds have become worthless, and We will not assign to them on the Day of Resurrection any weight.” [Al-Kahf]
And the “meeting” means: the beatific vision (seeing Allah).
The essence of this line of argument is that our traditional theological heritage is dangerous and extreme, a hindrance to the progress of the Ummah — and that the later scholars were more pious and understanding than those earlier scholars who emphasized these debates. But this mirrors the arguments of secularists and modernists.

"It was only today that I came across this story in full detail.
This brings to mind that faith is, at its core, rooted in hope. A woman such as this doctor—may God grant her relief—finds consolation in the Prophetic Sunnah.
Imam Muslim narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ with her child and said, 'O Messenger of God, supplicate to Allah for him, for I have already buried three (children).' He asked, 'You have buried three?' She replied, 'Yes.' He said, 'Indeed, you have built a formidable barrier against the Hellfire.'"

And this woman has buried nine children—her protection from the Fire, therefore, is multiplied thrice. We pray that this will be granted to her.
Al-Nasa’i narrated in his Sunan that the Prophet ﷺ said to a man who had lost a child: “O so-and-so, which would you prefer: to have enjoyed him during your lifetime, or to come tomorrow to one of the gates of Paradise and find him there, having preceded you and opening the gate for you?” The man replied, “O Messenger of God, rather that he precede me and open the gate of Paradise for me—that is more beloved to me.” The Prophet said, “Then that is for you.”
Among the matters that strengthen the conviction of sound hearts in the reality of the Hereafter is witnessing the arrogance and tyranny of the 'brothers of apes and swine'—perpetrators of crimes so grave that no worldly punishment could truly equate to their severity.
Allah the Exalted has said: "And never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror]." [Surah Ibrahim: 42]
Of the remarkable reports found in historical records is what Ibn Asakir narrated in Tarikh Dimashq from Hind, the wife of Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad. She said: “I long for the Day of Judgment, that I may see Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad therein.”
Such is the state of every believer who has lost a loved one and holds firm faith in Allah and the Last Day. The most fortunate among them are those whose loss occurred in the path of martyrdom—an honor and expiation for the beloved."

This is a post about a woman who left Salafiyyah for Ash'ariyyah.
Note from her justifications—which it's good she mentioned: permissible adornment, music, and the status of women!
This reminds me of the story of the woman who converted to Christianity because of the story of the adulterous woman in the Bible (“Let him who is without sin cast the first stone”). Some preachers responded and explained that this story is not authentic in the Bible. Honestly, such a response doesn’t convince me at all.
What’s the connection between that woman who converted and the adulterous woman?
And how did she ignore all the topics of theology and law, and focus only on the idea that there’s no punishment for adultery?
Our friend [here] prefers one theological school over another because one of them supposedly allows her to take off her niqab and listen to music—even though these are not theological issues in the first place.
Most of the early Ashā'irah held views similar to contemporary Salafiyyah on these matters.

But leave that aside and read what al-Rāzī said about the status of women and how most scholars interpreted male guardianship (qiwāmah), and you’ll realize that what she admired in them is largely due to the influence of modern times.
Suppose things are as she claims; then this actually supports the truth of Salafiyyah—because Hell is surrounded by desires, and Paradise is surrounded by hardships, and in the end times, holding onto one's religion is like holding onto burning coal.
I don't even know how she dared to speak about the Vision (seeing God), and the Ash'ari view on it is the most puzzling: that He is seen though He has no face and is not in any direction.
But is she really concerned with seeing the face of Allāh?
What matters to her is that people see her face, adorned with the beautification she claims is permissible.
This woman represents a model of a large group that rejected Salafiyyah out of a rejection of religiosity itself and under the influence of liberal and feminist values.
And the Jahmi scholars were aware of this, so they exploited it and distorted religion—just as their predecessors distorted the divine attributes.
Allāh said: {Have you seen the one who takes his desires as his god?} [Al-Jāthiyah].
There’s a lesson in this for those who affiliate with Salafiyyah yet consider making some concessions to attract people—these people are addicted, and nothing will satisfy them, and more stages will follow.
I’ve seen those who became atheists, those who adopted Jahmi beliefs, and those who relapsed—all in pursuit of their base desires.
It’s truly a strange time, where theological beliefs are judged based on psychological complexes made up of layers of dreams, illusions, and desires derived from drama and its likes.
And I’ve seen more than can be counted—people looking at religion through a lens of modern, feminist utilitarianism. They don’t ask, “How can I attain God’s pleasure?” but rather, “What can I get out of religion, and how can I follow my desires without feeling guilty?”
No matter how much they present it as if they’ve discovered hidden truths, the trials expose them: they failed to remain steadfast in goodness because of pride, which then gave rise to justifications filthier than the sin itself.
And reflect on their general state after discovering this “fun” version of religiosity—you’ll be freed from the illusion that you’re dealing with merely deceived or naive individuals.

A Subtle Point: Two Traditions with Contrasting Jurisprudential Implications but a Unified Emphasis on Virtue
There are two narrations — one from ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the recommendation to make up missed fasts of Ramadan during the first ten days of Dhul-Ḥijjah, and another from ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (may Allah be pleased with him) indicating dislike for doing so.
Scholars have interpreted both reports as expressions of reverence for the ten days.
They understood ʿUmar’s report to mean that one should hasten to make up missed fasts from Ramadan early, so they may dedicate themselves to supererogatory (nafl) acts during the ten days.
As for ʿAlī’s report, they interpreted it as preferring that one should leave these days free for nafl worship and delay the obligatory fasts until after the ten days — akin to how one performs the regular Sunnah prayers before the obligatory ones, so the Sunnah is not missed.
In Ibn Taymiyyah’s Sharḥ al-ʿUmda, it is stated:
“Saeed reported from al-Ḥārith from ʿAlī: ‘Whoever owes fasts from Ramadan, let him make them up consecutively, not separately, and let him not fast during Dhul-Ḥijjah, for it is a month of devotion (nusk).’
And from al-Ḥasan from ʿAlī: ‘It is disliked to make up Ramadan fasts during the [first] ten days [of Dhul-Ḥijjah].’
Because fasting on these days is like the regular Sunnah prayers, and it is disliked to replace them with obligatory acts whose time does not risk being missed — just as one would not pray the obligatory fajr or ẓuhr before their respective Sunnahs.
The second opinion: It is not disliked.
Ḥarb said: Aḥmad was asked whether one should make up Ramadan fasts during the ten days. He said: ‘It is narrated from ʿAlī that he disliked it.’ But Aḥmad was lenient in this matter.
His leniency implies permissibility, not prohibition — for if it were forbidden, he would have mandated doing them earlier.
ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Mawhib reported:
A man asked Abū Hurayrah, saying: ‘I used to fast during these ten days (i.e., Dhul-Ḥijjah), but I was sick during Ramadan and still owe some fasts. Should I fast now?’
He replied: ‘Start with the obligation you owe to Allah.’
This was narrated by Saʿīd.
And as previously mentioned, ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (may Allah be pleased with him) used to recommend making up Ramadan fasts during the ten days.
The soundest view is that both fasting — whether as voluntary or obligatory (make-up) — is permissible during these days, but voluntary fasting is superior, just like performing the regular Sunnahs at the beginning of prayer time.”
So although the two reports differ in jurisprudential implication, they both affirm the virtue of righteous deeds during the ten days of Dhul-Ḥijjah. The disagreement is not specific to fasting itself.
Preferring to clear oneself of owed obligations before the ten days shows the virtue of what follows, while preferring to leave the ten days for voluntary deeds demonstrates their exceptional merit.
Qawām al-Sunnah said in al-Targhīb wal-Tarhīb:
“1880 – Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Dhakwānī reported to us, who was told by Abū al-Ḥasan ibn Maylah, who reported from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿĪsā, who reported from Aḥmad ibn Mahdī, from ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd, from Hushaym, from Khālid al-Ḥadhdhā’, from Abū ʿUthmān — meaning al-Nahdī — who said: ‘They used to prefer three sets of ten: the first ten of Dhul-Ḥijjah, the last ten of Ramadan, and the first ten of Muḥarram.’”
Al-Marwazī said in Qiyām al-Layl (as quoted in its abridged version):
“Hushaym said: Khālid informed us from Abū ʿUthmān: They used to greatly venerate three tens — the first ten of Muḥarram, the first ten of Dhul-Ḥijjah, and the last ten of Ramadan.”
This is considered authentic if the transmitter between al-Marwazī and Hushaym is trustworthy — and that is likely the case.
The Abū ʿUthmān referred to here is al-Nahdī, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mull, who met both ʿUmar and ʿAlī and narrated from them.
The virtue in these ten days is not restricted to fasting.
