This is a statement by Hassan (Abu Flah), one of the biggest content creators in the Arab world, followed by millions of youth and children.

He mentioned such a statement, which many may find appealing—especially since he cited a verse.
However, his statement is incorrect, and what makes it worse is that we are living in an age of compromise and dilution.

This kind of inference falls under the category of following ambiguous verses. What’s surprising is that the earliest to use this verse as evidence for the claim that Islam venerates the places of worship of the People of the Book were the Christians themselves.

Ibn Taymiyyah said in Al-Jawab al-Sahih:
“Chapter: Refuting their claim that Islam venerates their places of worship.”

He then provided a response to their inference, clarifying that the exegetes mentioned the “monasteries and churches” in the verse refer to those that existed before the time of the Prophet ﷺ—before those religions were abrogated.

Some scholars also said this was a form of favor shown to the People of the Book in contrast to those worse than them, like the Magians and others. So, these places—if the lands were conquered by force—were to be demolished, according to the majority of jurists. But if the land was taken by treaty, they were permitted to remain. And only in this context are they tolerated. That is, if they are replaced by mosques, then that is better.

Many have said that the phrase “in which the name of Allah is much mentioned” applies only to mosques.

Now, if someone comes forward and says: “That’s just the scholars’ interpretation—the verse is clear!”
We respond: No, this is the understanding of those who take the Qur’an as a whole. Allah said:
“And they say: ‘The Most Merciful has taken a son.’ • You have certainly made a monstrous statement. • The heavens almost rupture therefrom and the earth splits open and the mountains collapse in devastation • That they attribute to the Most Merciful a son. • And it is not appropriate for the Most Merciful to take a son.” [Maryam: 88–92]

So can the place where such statements are made—statements so grave the heavens almost rupture because of them—be considered a place of honor, reverence, and respect?

Ibn Taymiyyah said in Al-Jawab al-Sahih:
“The destruction of the Christians’ monasteries and churches is corruption only when done by Magians and polytheists. But when Muslims destroy them and replace them with mosques where Allah’s name is often mentioned, then that is goodness and reform.”

He also said in Ar-Radd ‘ala al-Bakri:
“He did not mention the houses of idolatry like temples and shrines, nor the fire temples, because the monasteries and churches belong to the People of the Book. What is praiseworthy among them is what was built before abrogation and alteration, just as He praised the Jews, Christians, and Sabians who lived before the abrogation and change—those who believed in Allah and the Last Day and did righteous deeds.
This is unlike the temples of idols, fire, or the temples of the polytheist Sabians, like those they call the Temple of the First Cause, the Temple of the Intellect, the Temple of the Soul, the Temple of Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and the Moon. In these houses, there was no believer, nor was any worship conducted in them that Allah had commanded.”

And his student, Ibn al-Qayyim, supported the view in Al-Jawab al-Sahih in his book Ahkam Ahl al-Dhimmah, where he said:
“The verse reflects reality; it does not indicate that these places—other than mosques—are beloved or pleasing to Him. Rather, He informed us that if He had not repelled some people by means of others, these places—which were once beloved to Him before Islam—would have been destroyed. He permitted some of them to remain after Islam, even though He detests them, just as He allowed the existence of the People of the Book, even though He hates them and loathes them, and yet He defends them through the Muslims despite His hatred for them.”

"This young man committed suicide a day or two ago and left this message. Whether this is true or not, there is a lesson to be learned, because many are like him. So I say:

The matter is painful, but it must be addressed so that it does not happen again.

This is an example of what I explained in my audio titled 'The Failed Hero Complex'.
This young man, despite the presence of people around him who seemed to love him, ended his life because he reached the age of thirty-five without having accomplished anything (in his eyes).

So he committed the crime of taking his own life, despite the severe warnings against it in the law of Allah, the Almighty, as He says:
'O you who have believed, do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly or send it [in trade] by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful. And whoever does that in aggression and injustice – We will drive him into a Fire. And that, for Allah, is always easy.' [An-Nisa 29-30]

The cause of this affliction is that many young people have been confined to the idea of 'worldly achievement,' and a person begins to feel worthless unless they reach a certain level of success.

So much so that the success of those around them becomes a burden on them and a reason to be shamed—either by others or by themselves—without realizing that they may face obstacles others don’t, or that others might have advantages they do not.

Even in times of weakness, God’s blessings continue to surround a person. In prayer, he says, ‘Our Lord, to You belongs all praise—filling the heavens, filling the earth, and filling whatever else You will besides that’—and he means it sincerely. If he truly observed God's blessings, he would recognize them: ‘And if you tried to count the blessings of Allah, you could never enumerate them.’ [An-Nahl 18]

In the authentic hadith narrated by Abu Huraira, the Prophet ﷺ said:
‘None of you should wish for death, nor pray for it before it comes. But if he must do so, let him say: O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and take me if death is better for me. For when one of you dies, his deeds come to an end, and a believer’s lifespan only increases him in goodness.’

Reflect: A believer’s life only brings more good—whether or not he achieves what he hoped for in this world—because this world is the farm of the Hereafter.

And in another hadith from the Prophet ﷺ:
‘Look to those who are below you, and do not look to those who are above you. That is more likely to prevent you from belittling the blessings of Allah upon you.’

Many are like this young man, as I mentioned. But some turn to addiction, crime, or superstition due to this pressure—especially with how common it has become on social media for people to boast about their success, which may be achieved through unlawful means or be nothing more than a test or a trap.

And in the hadith: ‘Perhaps a disheveled person, turned away from doors, if he were to swear by Allah, Allah would fulfill it for him’ — narrated by Muslim from Abu Huraira.

Such a person may be seen as nothing by people, but he holds great status in the sight of Allah, the Almighty.

This is not a call to abandon seeking sustenance through lawful means—this is necessary. But it is a call to restore this issue to its proper place: from being an ultimate goal to merely a means."

Yesterday, it occurred to me to search for the most viewed content on YouTube, and I found that children's songs overwhelmingly dominate.

The reason for the spread of this content— and Allah knows best— is that many parents choose the easiest way to calm their children with such material, unaware of the danger it holds.
Imagine an entire hour of songs, with many views, meaning they are being replayed over and over.

They lean toward the easy solution, not realizing the negative impact this has on the child's faith by accustoming them to it, as well as on their health.

Allah Almighty says:
“O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones.”
[Surat At-Tahrim]

And the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is responsible for his flock.”

Doctors have said much about the harm of children spending too much time in front of screens, and the repetitive melodies that are played over and over in long sessions, which make children sit in front of them for extended periods.

According to the Alhurra website:
"A study published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics showed that children who watched screens for an average of two hours a day performed worse later, at age nine, in executive functions.
The researchers defined executive functions, which are linked to long-term academic success, as ‘a set of cognitive skills essential for self-regulation, learning, academic achievement, and mental health.’
The study was conducted on more than 400 children.
Jennifer Ashton, a medical correspondent for ABC News, said the researchers conducted EEGs (electroencephalograms) on the children to study their brain waves over about 18 months and then linked the amount of screen time in early childhood to their performance on memory and attention tests at age nine.”

There are dozens of studies on this subject. I know very well that such studies influence many people more than religious rulings—unfortunately. We are just trying to save what we can.
“I only desire reform as much as I am able.”

Note: the translation of the image has a mistake. According to the story, he told her that she is divorced if he is not one of the people of Jannah (Paradise).

______

This story is very widespread—I’ve heard it since I was a child.

Its summary is that Harun al-Rashid said to his wife: "You are divorced if I am not among the people of Paradise." Then he was unsure whether she was divorced or not, so he sought a jurist to find a way out. Al-Layth ibn Saʿd came and found a loophole for him, saying: “Recite Surah al-Rahman.” When he reached the verse: {But for he who has feared the position of his Lord are two gardens}, al-Layth said to him: “Swear that you fear the position of your Lord, and you will have two gardens.”

This story has become very common among people, but it is not authentic and leans closer to being munkar.
It was reported by Abu Nuʿaym in Hilyat al-Awliya and by al-Silafi in al-Tuyuriyyat. In its chain of narration is Abu al-ʿAla al-Hasan ibn Yusuf ibn Salih, whom I could not find a biography for, and Abu al-Hasan al-Khadim, who is unknown (as the editor of al-Tuyuriyyat noted—and correctly so).
What’s correct is that such a statement—asserting for oneself a place in Paradise—is a form of irjāʾ (a theological position minimizing the importance of deeds), because a believer does not know what his ultimate fate will be.
Imam Malik used to issue fatwas that whoever said, "My wife is divorced if I am among the people of Paradise," should indeed be separated from his wife, because one does not know his fate.

Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani explained the reasoning behind this ruling in his work al-Dhabb ʿan Madhhab al-Imam Malik [2/684], saying:

"Suppose a man has a wife, and he is certain she is lawfully his. Then he begins to doubt—perhaps she is actually his sister by blood or breastfeeding—would he remain with her in that case? Of course not. This aligns with legal principles, because prohibition is given more weight than permissibility. A thing is considered forbidden with the least cause, while being deemed permissible requires greater proof. For example, if a man divorces even part of his wife (with a complete divorce), she becomes forbidden to him, and must observe ʿiddah (waiting period); however, if he were to marry part of her, that wouldn’t make her lawful. Also, a woman divorced thrice doesn’t become lawful again until she marries and consummates that marriage with another husband—this is a strong indication of how serious the law treats prohibition. Therefore, the matter at hand is even stronger in imposing separation. Because the one making the oath is not overtaken by doubt unintentionally, but he deliberately introduces uncertainty upon himself by saying: ‘If I’m not among the people of Paradise, then she is divorced.’ He is intentionally putting himself in doubt."

Ibn Abi Zayd means: a person does not know if they are from the people of Paradise, so it's like doubting whether one’s wife is his sister by breastfeeding—he must separate from her as a precaution (due to strong indicators, not baseless doubts).

Al-Khallal reported in al-Sunnah:

“969 – Sulayman al-Ashʿath told us, I heard Ahmad [ibn Hanbal] say that Yahya [ibn Saʿid] said: Sufyan [al-Thawri] disapproved of saying: ‘I am a believer.’
Sulayman said: Ahmad told us, Wakiʿ told us that Sufyan said: ‘People, according to us, are believers regarding legal rulings and inheritance—we hope they are [true believers], but we do not know our status before Allah.’”

Sufyan’s statement: “We do not know our status before Allah” does not align with someone who affirms he is among the people of Paradise and bases a divorce on that.

What’s mentioned in the story is inappropriate self-praise.

Ibn Abi Shaybah said in al-Iman:

"23 – Wakiʿ narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Abu Wa’il, who said: A man came to ʿAbdullah [ibn Masʿud] and said: ‘I met a group and asked them, “Who are you?” They said, “We are the believers.”’
So he [Ibn Masʿud] said: ‘Why didn’t they just say: We are the people of Paradise?’”

This is an authentic chain of narration. It shows that Ibn Masʿud disapproved of anyone making such a claim that implies certainty of being among the people of Paradise—let alone swearing by it!

In conclusion, this story is unreliable, and its content contradicts sound Islamic principles and the cautious stance of the early scholars.

Lately, I’ve been seeing tweets from people proudly flaunting what they call the "Pharaonic civilization."
It doesn't take much skill to realize that many of them are either Christians or atheists. However, such rhetoric can influence people, especially in times of societal tension, when much of the anger stemming from helplessness is misdirected.

I saw a tweet from a young woman engaging in these intellectual battles with the mindset of women boasting among themselves—this one flaunts her dress, that one her hair, and another this or that. Her pride was in something either created by God or achieved through the labor of her guardian.
She posted a picture of golden sandals—remnants of the "Pharaonic civilization"—and claimed that when her ancestors were wearing golden shoes, the Arabs were barefoot and naked.

I thanked God for the blessing of reason and moved on. But the matter returned to me, prompting me to open a topic I've long wanted to explore.

Certainly, we don’t take such nonsense seriously. True honor lies in piety and obedience to God. A person who unifies and worships God while naked is better than one who wears the finest garments as a polytheist. {Indeed, the most honorable of you in the sight of God is the most righteous} [Al-Hujurat].

Beyond that, this example itself illustrates the virtue of Islam for humanity. Such displays of pride usually emerge in deeply classist societies—where the extremely wealthy exist alongside those who can’t even afford food. This could be shameful: one person wears golden sandals while another walks barefoot, unable to find anything to wear.

This is an article by Delphine Driaux, an Egyptologist and Deputy Director of the Middle Egypt Project at the University of Vienna. She says:
"We still know very little about the poor in ancient Egypt. Archaeologists and historians perhaps bear some responsibility for this. Their study topics are often based on available data, which typically consists of well-preserved artifacts and monuments—mostly belonging to the wealthy. Therefore, studies of Egyptian society are inevitably biased, based on a small segment of the population."

She concluded that the poor were so crushed that they left no trace in history (despite being the majority). Yet, some descendants of those very people—or even of Romans, Persians, Berbers, or others who lived in Egypt—boast about those who oppressed their own ancestors, to compensate for an inferiority complex!

Meanwhile, the Islamic system of Zakat—let alone endowments and voluntary charity—is enough to prevent such misery, except in cases where faith is lacking. It wouldn’t be like it was in the days of the Pharaohs.

Historical readings of Egyptology are not free from bias and often fill gaps with the speaker’s desires. You have symbols that serve a narrative.

For example, Dr. Joyce Tyldesley, an Egyptologist from the University of Manchester, said:
"Queen Nefertiti was merely one of a series of powerful queens who played influential roles in Egyptian history, but she never ruled Egypt."
That is, she wasn’t a pharaoh.

Making her a queen-regnant is a fabrication by some, supported by modern feminist narratives. Feminists rejoice in it, even though she and others like her were loyal servants of patriarchal, indeed classist and oppressive, regimes that brought them to where they were.
