TIS Scholarship Application is open now!
Deadline: January 31
My last year announcement:
"Tashkent International School, where I study now, is opening a new round of full-tuition scholarships that will completely cover 3 years of studying on campus at Tashkent. These 3 years include 10th, 11th, and 12th grades of International Baccaulerate education. However, the school offers much more than the IB education only:
1) All subjects, except language lessons, are taught in English.
2) TIS has a truly diverse community coming from a variety of backgrounds (foreigners are the majority at school).
3) A very supportive staff that will help you to adapt to a new environment.
4) Constantly present social events and co-curricular activities covering a huge amount of interests: sports, arts, technical skills with computers, leadership, MUN, and many others.
You can have 4's for your subjects but still be considered. You do not have to be finishing 9th grade this year: if you're a 10th-grader or a 1st-year student at college now, you can still apply (if you fit the requirements). You can apply outside of Tashkent—you only need to be able to attend the exams live (no online option is offered), but you will need to move to Tashkent if you get accepted."

Good luck to those applying!

You get in. It feels euphoric. Everyone seems to care about you. You are on top of the world. For a few days. Then the hype fades away. You start worrying about visas, travel arrangements, and future life in college.
You spend your first university days. You feel dumb compared to others. You question why you applied in the first place. Or whether you belong there.
With time, you grow. You become more comfortable. This blissful period may be short though. You may miss a deadline or two and feel burnout. And you get humbled again.
Luckily, you have survived till your final diploma project. You perhaps procrastinate on it. Literally me now, but that's beyond the point. You are overwhelmed. Not your first time. So you are used to it.
Then, you apply for your first job or master’s program. Likewise, you get stressed about these undertakings. Life may feel like you are constantly moving in circles.
Ultimately, you may choose to live from one milestone to another. Or enjoy your daily experiences, build meaningful relationships, and let go of the destructive public expectations — this never-ending competition that makes little sense if you stop and think about it.
The thing is that if you are happy now, you will feel the same way at your university. If you are miserable, the acceptance letter won’t cure it.
Students who think of college acceptance as a solution to all their life problems rarely get in. They fail to look a few steps ahead.
Your college experience would merely amplify your current approach to life, not redefine it.

2022 Recap - How was 2022?
January - I applied to dozen universities, most of which were apply-and-get-in. I got 1420 on the second try of the SAT.
February - As a part of the Bookology club, we donated dozens of books to an orphanage. However, I wasted the rest of the month waiting for the college results.
March - I got rejected from NYU, Amherst College, Williams College, Pomona College, and Purdue.
April - Rustam, with whom I studied in the summer, got accepted to Yale. Looking at Rustam’s Yale acceptance, I decided to take a gap year in split seconds.
May - Became part of the Freshman Admissions Program; took the SAT for the third time, getting 1410. I graduated from CIC.

Continuation ...
June - With Azamhon and Diyorbek, I participated in a hackathon, which gave rise to the idea of the project StudyBuddy, launching it as the real project later with three groups — Book Worms, Philosophy Area, and TechFam. As the part of Philosophy Club that I led, we learned the EDx course by MIT Prof Caspar Hare.
July - Developed my writing skills as part of the admissions program and read fundamental literature regarding the Philosophy of Mind.
August - With Ulugbek, we interviewed Prof. Caspar as the part of Philosophy Club. I wrote my first short paper and studied the fundamentals of AI through Veritas AI, a program for Harvard graduates.
September - I was busy cramming for the SAT.
October - Being a Kyrgyz myself, I was thrilled to go to Kyrgyzstan to take SAT. I became part of the Full Support Program, and with Valera, we decided to apply to Yale after I got the superscore of 1500.
November - Supplementals
December - I got into Yale!
