Steel Production Goes up in DPRK
Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- Workers in the metallurgical industry of the DPRK are increasing the steel production by dint of science and technology.

The workers and technicians of the blast furnace shop No. 1 at the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex have fulfilled their pig iron production plan by steadily innovating the operation mode of the oxygen heat blast furnace.

The oxygen separator branch factory and the hot-rolling workshop have increased the production of oxygen and rolled steel systematically by introducing advanced technology while consolidating the past successes made in readjustment and reinforcement.

The members of the April 15 Technological Innovation Shock Brigade at the Chollima Steel Complex are increasing production by developing new technologies.

The workers of the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex are boosting the production by reducing the melting time and increasing the output of molten iron per charge.

The miners of the Musan Mining Complex are increasing the production of iron ore, determined to attain the goal of the first year of the new Five-Year Plan ahead of schedule.

The Hungnam Electrode Factory is boosting the production through technological innovation activities while putting the equipment management and technical control on a scientific basis and intensifying cooperation among shifts and processes. -0-

Joint Meeting of Political Parties and Organizations in Nordic Region
Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- A joint meeting and a commemorative reception of political parties and organizations in the Nordic region took place in Sweden to celebrate the Ninth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Present there were members of political parties and organizations, organizations for the study of the Juche idea, organizations for friendship and solidarity with the Korean people and persons from various circles in Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland and the charge d'affaires ad interim of the DPRK embassy in Sweden.

The participants laid bouquets before an art work depicting President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il standing together and paid tribute to them.

Speeches were made at the event.

Figures of the Communist Party of Sweden and the Sweden-Korea Friendship Association said that the WPK demonstrated its might of unity and firm faith in socialism through its Congress.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un's reelection as General Secretary of the WPK fully shows the DPRK people's absolute support and boundless trust in their leader and the harmonious whole between the Party and the popular masses, they said, adding that the Ninth Congress of the WPK marked another milestone in the history of the DPRK shining with victory.

A joint statement of political parties and organizations in the Nordic region was adopted at the event.

DPRK Defence Science Research Institutes Conduct Tests of Important Weapon Systems
Pyongyang, April 9 (KCNA) -- The Academy of Defence Science and the Missile Administration of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea conducted the tests of electromagnetic weapon system, carbon fiber sham bombs scattering, verifying combat reliability of mobile short-range anti-aircraft missile system and estimating combat application and power of cluster bomb warhead of tactical ballistic missile on April 6, 7 and 8.

The tests were guided by Full General Kim Jong Sik, member of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea and first vice department director of the WPK Central Committee.

He said that the electromagnetic weapon and carbon fiber bomb are special assets of strategic nature to be combined with and applied to various military means in different spheres.

The Anti-Air Weapon System Research Bureau of the Missile Administration conducted a test to verify the combat reliability of the mobile short-range anti-aircraft missile system.

The Ballistic Missile System Institute and the Warhead Institute of the Missile Administration conducted a test of estimating the combat application and cluster munitions power of tactical ballistic missile warhead, and confirmed that the surface-to-surface tactical ballistic missile Hwasongpho-11 Ka tipped with the cluster bomb warhead can reduce to ashes any target covering an area of 6.5~7 hectares with the highest-density power.

There was a firing for testing the maximum workload of engine using low-cost materials.

The Missile Administration said that the above tests are of great significance in the development of the armed forces of the DPRK and are a part of the regular activities of the administration and its affiliated defence scientific research institutes to constantly develop and upgrade weapon systems. -0-

Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un Sends Congratulatory Message to Vietnamese President
Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, sent a congratulatory message to To Lam, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, on April 8.

The message said:

I extend warm congratulations and comradely greetings to you on your election as president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam at the First Session of the 16th National Assembly.
