# π₯ Hunting IDN Homograph Vulnerabilities in Bug Bounty Programs
An IDN Homograph Attack abuses visually similar Unicode characters to create domains that appear identical to legitimate ones.
Example:
Legitimate:
Lookalike:
The second domain uses a Unicode character instead of the standard Latin letter, making it look nearly identical to the human eye.
## Where to Look
Focus on features that trust or validate domain names:
- OAuth Redirect URI validation
- SSO integrations
- Email domain verification
- Organization or workspace domain ownership
- Webhook allowlists
- CORS origin validation
- Trusted domain allowlists
- Import/sync integrations
## Testing Workflow
1. Identify a feature that validates or trusts a domain.
2. Understand how the application performs the validation (registration, verification, redirect, etc.).
3. Register a lookalike IDN domain using Unicode characters that resemble the target domain (only if permitted by the bug bounty program and applicable laws).
4. Complete the normal verification process with your own controlled domain.
5. Observe whether the application incorrectly treats your lookalike domain as the legitimate one.
6. Verify whether this leads to a security impact, such as bypassing a domain restriction, associating an unauthorized organization, or accepting an untrusted redirect.
7. Document the root cause, impact, and evidence, and report it responsibly.
## Things to Watch For
- Unicode normalization issues
- Punycode conversion inconsistencies
- Case-insensitive comparisons without canonicalization
- Visual-only domain validation
- Weak allowlist implementations
## Important Note
A lookalike domain alone is not a vulnerability. The issue exists only when the application's validation logic incorrectly trusts or equates the malicious domain with the legitimate one.

The next book in the "3 Bugs That's Pay" series will be entirely dedicated to one vulnerability class:
HTTP Request Smuggling
Why?
Because this single vulnerability class has earned me $62,654 in BB rewards
It's the complete methodology I use in real bug bounty engagements
Inside the book you'll learn:
β’ The theory behind every desynchronization type (CL.TE, TE.CL, TE.TE, CL.0, CL.CL)
β’ How to fingerprint targets before wasting time testing
β’ A practical recon methodology
β’ Modern detection techniques
β’ Eliminating false positives
β’ Reliable confirmation methods
β’ Advanced exploitation (Cache Poisoning, Session Hijacking, Auth Bypass)
β’ CDN & WAF testing strategies
β’ 4 real-world case studies
β’ Professional report writing
β’ CVSS & severity negotiation
β’ Ready-to-use payloads
β’ Ready-to-use report templates
β’ Complete testing checklist
It's the exact workflow I refined through years of hunting and real-world bug bounty experience.

# π§ Methodology > Payloads
One of the biggest mistakes I see in HTTP Request Smuggling hunting is starting with payloads.
I don't.
Every target is different.
Before sending a single payload, I first fingerprint the architecture, understand the request flow, identify the front-end and back-end behavior, and only then start testing.
That's exactly the methodology I cover in the upcoming 3 Bugs That's Pay β HTTP Request Smuggling.
Because finding HRS bugs isn't about luckβit's about having a repeatable process.

π¨ What this book is NOT.
β A payload collection.
β A copy of PortSwigger labs.
β A list of tricks.
β A 30-minute crash course.
This book is about building a repeatable methodology for finding real HTTP Request Smuggling vulnerabilities.
The goal isn't to memorize payloads.
The goal is to understand *why* they work, *when* to use them, and *how* to validate real findings.
That's the difference between solving labs and finding bugs in production.
