Panchayats and Block Development Councils (BDCs) have ceased to exist in Jammu and Kashmir from today. All the Panchayats and BDCs have completed their term and now at least for six months these Panchayats and BDCs will be non-existent in the erstwhile state.
Mehbooba Mufti escapes unhurt in road accident, driver injured

Anantnag, Jan 11, KNT: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday met with a road accident while she was on her way to Anantnag. While Mufti escaped unhurt, her driver sustained injuries.

The accident took place in the Sangam area of the Anantnag district in South Kashmir.

As per party officials, the driver of the car has received injuries in his leg. Mufti was on her way to Khanabal to meet victims of a recent fire incident. [KNT]

Ladakh, July 10, KNT: Probably for the first time in its history, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has seized over 108 gold bars weighing over 108 kilograms.

The smuggled gold was seized from the possession of two suspects in Ladakh Sector.

An official from ITBP confirmed to the news agency Kashmir News Trust that this is the biggest catch from ITBP in its rich history. He said both the suspects after questioning would be handed over to the Customs Department.

Srinagar, July 11, KNT: In a significant development, Janata Dal United President for Jammu Kashmir Unit, GM Shaheen met Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his Nigeen residence in Srinagar outskirts on Thursday morning.

Sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that GM Shaheen arrived at the residence of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and there was an interaction between the two.

Sources added that both the leaders discussed the present political and social scenario.

When contacted, GM Shaheen declined to divulge information, however, he admitted that he met Mirwaiz Umar at his residence.

“There was a fruitful discussion on the current political scenario. People have been facing a lot of problems and we have the responsibility to mitigate the sufferings of the general public,” Shaheen said. [KNT]

Srinagar, July 12, KNT: Janata Dal United president for Jammu and Kashmir GM Shaheen Friday met Bilal Gani Lone.

Sources said that both the leaders had a detailed meeting on the current political scenario.

Pertinently, yesterday GM Shaheen met Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his Nigeen residence.

Though Shaheen declined to comment on what transpired in the meeting and what is it all about, he confirmed that he met Bilal Gani Lone. [KNT]
