The Bohai Gulf, also known as the Bohai Sea or Bo Hai—and historically referred to as the Gulf of Chili or the Gulf of Pechili—is the innermost gulf of the Yellow Sea, located along the northeastern and northern coasts of China. Spanning about 78,000 square kilometers, it lies near Beijing and is one of the world’s busiest seaways. Bordered by the Liaodong and Shandong Peninsulas, it includes key cities like Dalian and Tianjin, and features major bays such as Liaodong Bay, Bohai Bay, and Laizhou Bay. The Yellow River flows into the gulf, which is rich in petroleum resources and supports major industrial activity.
