I remember one of my classmates in the Mahad was from Guinea-Conakry, & being that my inlaws are from Cote D'ivoire, I've always had a connection & hung out with my African brothers in Islam.
I was especially fond of this particular brother as he was extremely talented in his Arabic language skills. He almost always had the best presentations & homework assignments. So I decided to take advantage of what Allah had blessed him with & made him my companion. I asked him once,"how did you become so fluent?" One of the advices he gave me was to study "Maqaamaat al-Hariry", as it was one of the books he had to study & memorize as a child. He said that his Mashaykh told him that whoever understands & implements what is in this book, by Allah's permission, will become proficient in the lugha. I was astounded...so I went to the local bookstore & bought this copy. I began reading it to him during our lunch break & asked him about any unclear word/context. Subhanallah, the benefit obtained was indescribable.
The reason why I'm mentioning this story is because as a student, we have to constantly remind ourselves to remain humble during our journey. Knowledge is something that Allah gives to whoever He wills - see the story of Musa & Khadr. Unfortunately, Shaytan whispers to us to avoid the advices/study tips of our contemporaries/those younger than us in age or knowledge. This is without a doubt, one of the major barriers preventing us from attaining beneficial ilm. As we progress in our studies, we should realize how ignorant we really are. So whenever we see someone who has been blessed by Allah, we should try to benefit from them - despite their age (btw there's a difference between benefitting & taking one as a shaykh فتأمل). If we lower our egos & humble ourselves for Allah's sake, He will bless us with beneficial ilm.
مَنْ تَوَاضَعَ لِلَّهِ رَفَعَهُ اللَّهُ
"Whoever humbles himself for Allah, He raises him." I realize that because Allah granted me success to humble myself towards my classmate, I came to learn about this book, benefit from it, & as a result, progress in the lugha. May Allah cleanse our hearts from ill-feelings and allow us to humble ourselves for His sake alone. #k2kadvices #K2KStudyTips

Library tip. One of our tafsir Mashaykh recently shared with us a benefit about how to organize our #tafsir section at home. He said that many of the mufassirun quote from each other without directly mentioning that they've done so. This is fine as they have mentioned in their introductions their sources for tafsir. In order to get a better idea of who quoted from who, one should organize their tafsir compilations based off of when they died.
This is my humble tafsir section. I tried my best to implement the advice, but due to lack of space I had to make a separate section on the right for my contemporary tafaasir.

After reading the Maqamaat al-Hariry post, some have pm'd regarding other books to help in learning Arabic. When I was in the mahad, my hadith/hadith terminology teacher جزاه الله خيرا advised us to study this series during our free time:
صور من حياة الصحابة وصور من حياة التابعين
The first book for the stories of the Sahaabah was published in 1974 and the second was in 2010. The first book for the Tabi'een was in 1982. There is also a version for the Sahaabiyaat (women) رضي الله عنهم أجمعين which I was never able to find a hard copy of in Makkah.
The vocabulary words in the book series are extremely beneficial. There are some intermediate grammar rules applied throughout, so having background knowledge of قطر الندى will serve you well. There are also some phrases that require extra explanation so refer to classical dictionaries like al-Qaamus al-Muheet by al-Fayroos-Abaadi, Taaj al-Aroos, and someone proficient.
Try to use synonyms from your own vocabulary bank when writing down the new words in your vocab book. For example, if you see the word أترع don't write "to fill" but instead ملأ. This will help you to transition into thinking Arabic in Arabic.
I pray you will benefit, may Allah grant all of you success. We have plans to teach the first book in the fall or winter, in shaa Allah.

After reading our first post on #K2KLibrarytips in tafsir, alot of you requested more tips/advices. Bismillah...
The student focuses on acquiring books (that are suitable for their level and taught by their teachers) as advised by the Muhaddith Sh. Muhammad Ali Aadam al-Ityoobi حفظه الله,
واعتنين بجمع كتب إما ... تشترين أو تستعر لا ذما
Give great attention to gathering (beneficial) books by either buying or borrowing and there's nothing wrong with the latter.
This means your library will constantly expand throughout the years; it's important to keep your books organized and arranged in a manner that is convenient and easily accessible.
Annual or biannual (twice a year) inventory checks/library rearrangements are crucial (preferably during school breaks or weekends so you can take your time)...This will allow you to become reacquainted with those books you may have forgotten you own. This isn't necessarily applicable to larger compilations, but it's certainly the case with those small independant treaties/one vol. explanations (I will expound on this point when I organize the aqeedah/miscellaneous section - in shaa Allah).
If you have a family, then rearranging your library is a really good bonding experience as it gives you the opportunity to explain and introduce certain books to your spouse and (older) children. Also, your little kids are always eager to help so it becomes a great moment to show them the importance of knowledge. I'm sure we all have memories of helping our parents when we were small and how it left an impression on us even until today. Leave that same impact on them in shaa Allah.
This can also be a reminder of knowledge's responsibility. Feeling the actual weight of these books and will tire you out...but you'll remember that knowledge is much weightier and it can lead to a person's success or destruction (Allah make it a proof for us). No doubt you will be motivated and strive even harder. There are other benefits I hope I can share in future posts بفضل الله.
Due to lack of space, I had to separate my hadith section into two different portions. In the photo are only explanations for the 6 books of Hadith.
