*Pune's Zero Shadow Day*
🌞📍📐📏

Pune is going to enjoy a Zero Shadow Day on *13th May* as Sun comes exactly overhead at local noon on this day. We have organised an open event to celebrate this annual phenomenon. Entry free to all. No pre-registration required.

It's a great learning opportunity involving a live demo and expert commentary. Also, there's a good chance we'll get to witness a high number of sunspots that have emerged due to Sun being near the peak of its 11-year magnetic activity cycle.

Please forward this to your contacts, especially to school kids.

Date - Tuesday, 13th May 2025
Time - 12 noon to 1 PM
Venue - JVP office, Tilak Smarak Mandir, Tilak Road

Regards,
Team JVP
[Hello everyone!
We are approaching our सहस्रचंद्रदर्शन meaning 1000(moon tithis) lunar months since our Foundation and for that we plan to celebrate it by sharing the various personal anecdotes related to JVP as well as old photos over social media channels like Twitter, facebook or instagram and tag JVP. This is so that all the new members will get to know about other members spread across the world and it will also become a permanent archive of the people of JVP, it's events and also some good interesting stories around it.

For those who are interested in writing blogs we would love to archive those on the new JVP website too that will be released on 30th of May.

Meanwhile requesting you all to put together your photos, memories and stories of JVP and related events and any other fun anecdotes that we can collate and read.
We all can start posting those 29th May onwards over social media. And we would love to compile all of those on our website later as an archive as well as other blogs that members would contribute.

Get ready for a spectacular celestial event! On September 7, 2025, a Total Lunar Eclipse, also known as a "Blood Moon," will be visible in the night sky. This phenomenon occurs when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow on the Moon and giving it a reddish hue.

JVP has arranged a public program at Kesariwada JVP Observatory on 7th September 8:30 pm onwards until midnight. The telescopic viewing of Moon and Planets will be dependent upon clouds.

Lunar Eclipse Timings in Pune (IST):

- First Contact with Penumbra: 8:58 PM, September 7, 2025
- Total Eclipse Begins: 11:00 PM, September 7, 2025
- Maximum Eclipse: 11:42 PM, September 7, 2025
- Total Eclipse Ends: 12:22 AM, September 8, 2025
- Last Contact with Umbra: 1:26 AM, September 8

Live streaming of the eclipse along with some demos and members from overseas will be the main highlight where we will get an opportunity to view the eclipse from various parts of the world!

Observe Geminids Meteor Shower from Lonar Lake – a perfect dark‑sky backdrop

The Geminid meteor shower peaks on the night of 12‑13-14 December 2025, with the highest rates after midnight (around 2 am local time) and a broad activity window that lasts a few days.

Location: Lonar Lake (19.97° N, 76.50° E) sits in the Buldhana district of Maharashtra, far enough from major city lights to give a relatively dark sky.
- Moon: The 33 % waning crescent rises only in the pre‑dawn hours, so the sky will be almost moon‑free during the prime viewing window.
- Rate: Under ideal dark conditions you can expect ≈ 100 meteors per hour at the peak, with some bright fireballs.
- What to see: The radiant is in Gemini, rising in the east‑southeast after midnight. Lie back, look toward the southeast, and let your eyes adjust for 20‑30 minutes.

Jyotirvidya Parisastha’s study tour (12‑13‑14 Dec) is timed perfectly to catch the Geminids. The group will have a dedicated night‑sky session at the lake, and the less‑polluted sky should let you count hundreds of meteors over the two nights.

If you’re planning to join, visit the official site: https://jvppune.in/events/lonar for the latest itinerary and registration details.
