THE ORIGIN OF "MERRY" CHRISTMAS
---
Filipinos are accustomed to saying “Merry Christmas” rather than “Happy Christmas.” This is due to the influence of the Americans who colonized the country for more than 30 years. The usage of “Merry Christmas” started in England (even if the people there are more used to saying “Happy Christmas”). It is believed that in 1534, St. John Fisher, the cardinal from Rochester, wrote a Christmas letter and said "And this our Lord God send you a merry Christmas, and a comfortable, to your heart’s desire.“ Fisher was martyred 6 months after.

DECEMBER 25: THE WORD BECAME FLESH
Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord Jesus
---
And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
