What is Dogecoin?

Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency created by software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, who decided to create a payment system as a joke, making fun of the wild speculation in cryptocurrencies at the time. Despite its satirical nature, some consider it a legitimate investment prospect. Dogecoin features the face of the Shiba Inu dog from the "Doge" meme as its logo and namesake. It was introduced on December 6, 2013, and quickly developed its own online community.Dogecoin has become the fifth largest cryptocurrency by market cap.

Dogecoin runs on blockchain technology, similarly to Bitcoin and Ethereum. Blockchain is a distributed, secure digital ledger that stores all transactions made using a decentralized digital currency. All holders carry an identical copy of the Dogecoin blockchain ledger, which is frequently updated with all new transactions in the cryptocurrency. Like other cryptocurrencies, Dogecoin’s blockchain network uses cryptography to keep all transactions secure.

Dogecoin may be used for payments and purchases, but it’s not a very effective store of value. This is chiefly because there is no lifetime cap on the number of Dogecoins that may be created by mining - meaning that the cryptocurrency is highly inflationary, by design. Today Dogecoin is no joke, having exploded in value and gained more than 5,000% in 2021.

INF Treaty

◾️ The 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty limited the use of medium-range missiles, both conventional and nuclear.
◾️ Under the INF treaty, the US and formerly Soviet Union agreed not to develop, produce, possess or deploy any ground-based ballistic and cruise missiles that have a range between 500 and 5,500 km.
◾️ It exempted the air-launched'* and sea-based missile systems** in the same range.
◾️ The INF treaty helped address the fears of an imminent nuclear war in Europe.
◾️ It also built some trust between Washington and Moscow and contributed to the end of the Cold War.

Biofuels: an opportunity for India

Bio fuel
Bio-fuels are a source of energy derived from the conversion of carbon-fixing biomass
through thermal, chemical or biochemical processes.

• Their popularity arises from the fact that they are cheaper and less environmentally
polluting than fossil fuels.

• 1st generation bio fuel- Directly using the food crops like wheat and sugar for making
ethanol and oil seeds for bio diesel by conventional method of fermentation. These fuels
emitted more greenhouse gases.

• 2nd generation bio fuel- Non-food crops and feedstock instead of food crops. Example:
Wood, grass, seed crops, organic waste etc.

• 3rd generation bio fuel- Use specially engineered Algae whose biomass is used to convert
into biofuels. The greenhouse gas emission here will be low in comparison to others.

4th generation bio fuel- are aimed at not only producing sustainable energy but also a way of
capturing and storing co2.

Topic- GS-3- Infrastructure: Energy, Ports, Roads, Airports, Railways etc.
