Gogabeel is Bihar’s first community reserve:

Gogabeel, an ox-bow lake in Bihar’s Katihar district, has been declared as the state’s first ‘Community Reserve’.

Gogabeel is formed from the flow of the rivers Mahananda and Kankhar in the north and the Ganga in the south and east. It is the fifteenth Protected Area (PA) in Bihar.

• She was brought from Singapore to Pune’s Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park and later shifted to Odisha

. • Orangutans are one of the world’s three surviving species of great apes and are native to Indonesia and Malaysia.

• Considered to be among the most intelligent primates, they use a variety of sophisticated tools and construct elaborate sleeping nests each night from branches and foliage and also play a vital role in seed dispersal in their habitats.

Kolleru Lake

Kolleru Lake is a freshwater lake and is known as Ramsar site no. 1209.

It is located between Krishna and Godavari deltas of Andhra Pradesh

As a haven for a wide-variety of water birds, the Forest Department has declared 673 sq.km (Con.+5) as the Kolleru Wildlife Sanctuary.


It is an Important Bird Area on the Central Asian Flyway.
It is important habitat for resident and migratory birds, including the grey or spot-billed pelican (Pelecanus philippensis). Many birds migrate here in winter, such as Siberian crane, ibis, and painted storks.
