Both the York Rite and the Scottish Rite are systems of Masonic degrees that pick up where the three Craft degrees of Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason leave off.

Each system presents symbolic instruction in the philosophies of Freemasonry.

The York Rite as practiced in the US contains three principal bodies, each maintaining stewardship of three or four degrees.

The Scottish Rite is a system of 29 degrees numbered 4° through 32° with the first three numbers understood as designating the foundational Craft degrees.

There is also a 33° which is honorary.

There are two major jurisdictions of the Scottish Rite within the US, the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction (NMJ) and the Southern Jurisdiction (SJ). The SJ is the larger of the two both by area. In the NMJ many degrees and their titles differ.

Sowohl der Yorker Ritus als auch der Schottische Ritus sind Systeme von Freimaurergraden, die dort anknüpfen, wo die drei Grade des Handwerks (Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft und Master Mason) aufhören.

Jedes System stellt eine symbolische Unterweisung in den Philosophien der Freimaurerei dar.

Der Yorker Ritus, wie er in den USA praktiziert wird, besteht aus drei Hauptgremien, die jeweils drei oder vier Grade verwalten.

Der Schottische Ritus besteht aus einem System von 29 Graden, die mit 4° bis 32° nummeriert sind, wobei die ersten drei Zahlen die grundlegenden Handwerksgrade bezeichnen.

Es gibt auch einen 33. Grad, der ein Ehrengrad ist.
