Japanese Comedy Storytelling Competition
Deadline: May 28, 2025
Submit a 30-second self-introduction video for a chance to be one of 12 finalists in the storytelling competition, happening on June 14, 2025!
This year’s story is 「○○怖い」, an adaptation from the popular rakugo 饅頭怖い (Manju kowai - the tale of a bun-fearing man). But this time, you give a twist to the story by replacing 'manju' with your local popular snack!

Deadline for Submission: Wed June 18, 2025
In this competition, you’ll choose one of five KOBANASHI scripts, memorize it, and perform it on video. You’ll also include a short self-introduction (related to the story you're performing).
Your video should be no longer than 1 minute (including the self-introduction).
Each script comes with simple instructions on how you can adapt or enhance your performance. Pick your favorite and show us your creativity and flair!

Join us as we explore tenugui—the traditional Japanese hand towel that has evolved from a simple daily-use item into a canvas for art and a vessel of heritage.
Jan Vincent, a Filipino collector, seller, and designer of tenugui, will share his journey and insights gained from working with Japanese tenugui masters. He will also highlight his creative efforts to preserve and promote Filipino history, culture, and heritage through various tenugui-inspired projects.
This talk will be conducted in English and is exclusively open to registered JLfest 2025 participants.
