Recently received from a customer, "Guys,

Got the PC, first time user of Linux/Zorin but remember days of DOS and dabbled a bit with Unix once upon a time. Finally got a chance to actually sit down and play a bit.

Must say, I'm totally blown away. in one day, got updates to OS, Office, got ExpressVPN working well, played with command screen and codes, got FireFox, Thunderbird and emails working, WiFi playing and the whole thing working, in one day. I expected this to take weeks.

I'm blown away on how good this is and all my older PCs with MS OS that's not supported won't need to be trashed. and there are excellent solutions forward. I had been stuck for five years or more on this OS nonsense with MS and now have a path forward - plus I am soooo glad to not support MS and their agenda.

It's funny because I was about to buy a Windows laptop and somehow waited Now I'm ecstatic.

Giant thanks to you guys! I'll be ordering another laptop directly and totally love the SLNT bag.

Wow.

Brian"

Being able to create computer programs seems "boring" to many people until they experience its impact firsthand.

When they create a working application that directly improves their lives in some way that they can feel - because it automates tasks, enhances security, or helps them discover some kind of previously unrealized income/expense equation that improves their finances, or because their first client hires them and they realize that people in every sector of business need technical help and that they’re truly able to earn a living from it, the concept of programming all of a sudden is something they can feel — in many different ways — and it becomes meaningful.

Once programming makes a difference that can be felt firsthand in someone's life, it transforms from boring to magical, from dull to special, sparking a craving for more knowledge.

And when the art of programming becomes special, every concept that was previously “mind-numbingly boring” - studying data types, techniques to improve efficiency and flow of code, and much more, the mind starts to desire and crave more of this knowledge instead of finding it “boring” — it all becomes a part of the act of creating something useful in a way that can be felt, and that’s what makes it truly worthwhile.

Without feeling some kind of result that they were able to create as a result of having the knowledge to have created it, programming seems “boring”, and most will not pursue it.

And therefore, most never start — or they start, yet never persue it to the point of where they’re able to feel a meaningful result that further captures their attention and motivates them to keep going.

Learned from many years of experience.

Morning frens! Yesterday’s poll question was:

What term is frequently used to describe companies or entities that collect personal data on consumers from various sources, package it into detailed profiles, then resell the data, often with little to no regulatory oversight?

Answer: Data Brokers.

Opaque, little-understood companies and “entities”, individuals even, who find ways to “aggregate” (collect) our information from as many sources as they can assemble, collect it, and re-sell it with little to no regulatory oversight.

Historically, the methods and tactics used by Data Brokers have not been understood by “We the People”, as we sit back and let them collect and resell our info as much as they want—saying things like “that’s too complicated to understand.”

Well, times are changing. People are getting smarter, more educated about Data Broker tactics, and are starting to advocate for themselves. Opt-out from as many Data Broker sites and sources as possible. In the future, hopefully more legislation will be passed prohibiting Data Broker tactics, allowing private lawsuits against companies that abuse our info.

Looks like the co-founder of the tech business, Twilio, may have bought “The Onion,” one of the most popular satire (joke) sites.

Too early to say BUT — if it’s true, expect some epic trolling before too long. Lawson was recently forced out of his business by “activist investors”, Twilio’s stock is down 16% then. He might have gone as far as to buy “The Onion” to troll Silicon Valley!

TSA Visited Apple and Google To Discuss Collaboration for Digital ID

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is continuing collaboration with Big Tech concerning the use of biometric surveillance technology, but also the development of digital IDs for passengers.

On its site, the TSA revealed that its officials traveled to California recently where they met with representatives of Apple and Google to talk about continuing work on implementing digital ID on people’s phones.

The TSA delegation to Silicon Valley, led by Administrator David Pekoske, referred to Apple and Google as their “innovation partners.” The goal is to continue with yet another example of “public-private” aka, government-Big Tech “partnership.”

This one seems to be happening fully in the open and at least TSA is enthusiastic about talking about it, and spelling it out: TSA is working with the tech giants so passengers can identify themselves with IDs stored on their phones at airports,” said the agency post.

As for those private companies, Google explained that the “collaboration” in question has to do with Google Wallet, and the ability to store a government ID in the app to allow TSA PreCheck “in select airports.”
