I just want to share my motivation and why I joined this group here with you all. I've been looking at technology with big dreamy eyes since I was a child. Wanted to have every new gadget and play around with it for days. But that joy turned into sadness as I've started understanding the way things work.
We are collectively funding colleges and universities to advance our society. And we have produced lots of smart brains over the decades / centuries. But the way it is now is that these smart people are recruited into a private company alongside with the intellectual property and the progress we as a collective produced gets privatized and sold back to us. Not only that but they even reserve the rights to use that technology to spy, manipulate and influence us.
But even with this being the case we have millions of people contributing to open source software for no payment whatsoever so we can own that technology that we as a society have created. While big tech was selling it back to us, these people have created tons of really well done solutions where the only barrier to cross is us knowing about it and learning how to use them.
It really makes me happy to see so many non tech-savy people here interested in these solutions and seeing that we have to take technology back into our hands.

There is only 3 things we will need to put our faith in Inorder for that to happen 1)Father 2)Son 3) Holy Spirit

The free graphics programs on Linux are getting very good. Especially Blender.

My sister had a laptop that had MS bit locker configured. Her employer would not help me to get into the laptop. It was her laptop with her employers configuration on it. We were unable to get into her laptop so I decided I would install mint on it. It was easy to load and it runs very well. I would like to install it on my MacBook as soon as I can find software for my 3D printer to run on Linux. I recommend anyone thinking about to jump in and try it. It is not difficult.

Chuck, just in case you didn't know, Mint comes with the driver for the Macbook's Broadcom wireless that most distros don't come with. So you will be able to enable wireless without a reboot and just by going into the driver utility in Mint. If you knew already, apologies....just trying to get word out to people who have Macs that about any Mac outside the M1 processor Macs can still work with Linux.

Wished I had kept my first PC - a 386sx local built. But I didn’t - massive street cred loss. 😢
*Bought at $195 open box special HP from Best Buy
* using Ubuntu 20.4 from USB
* WiFi and printers are happy
* going to wash away Windows
* I have docs stored off cloud and on secured drives
* going to move primary laptops over after a 2 week test

Yea! I've got Linux Mint installed and am working on installing apps. I've got Telegram up and running and I'm so pleased with myself! Not bad for an old dog!

Yes, I have successfully converted my Early 2011 MacBook Pro to Linux Mint 20.
